Motherās Day 2026!! Happy Motherās Day to all my teacher friends. Motherās are our studentsās first teachers. So in honour of all the wonderful mothers of my kindergarten students this year I wanted to give them a special gift on their special day. Every school year I am truly blessed with the most wonderful parents. I am genuinely grateful to give them hugs on hard days, encouraging them on difficult mornings and reassure them that they are doing the best they can, and that they will make it through motherhood. So on this Motherās Day I pulled out one of my favourite Motherās Dayās crafts out of my archives. I just LOVE these beautiful picture frames that will be memories forever. Thank you to all my kindergarten moms for being my biggest cheerleaders, for all your appreciation and for all the support that you show me. Happy Motherās Day ladies!!!šš#mothersday #fulldaykindergarten #diversebooksforkids #happymothersdayā¤ļø
Hello friends!! Itās been a while. This has definitely been a challenging school year. Thank goodness for the beautiful things that remind us that there is always joy to be found in this crazy thing that we call life. My April dump is a reminder of the beauty that exists between winter and Spring. Earth Month is always one of my favourite times of the school year. The children are always so excited to learn about the planet that they live on and you can truly feel their concern and worry for the future of their planet š. Art has a way of bringing out the best in every child. Learning various art techniques and using loose parts sparks joy and creativity. Also we cannot forget the importance of reading good books and being sure that inclusivity is always reflected in the literature that we choose. āTo Change a Planet,ā written by Christina Soontornvat is a simple and beautiful read for young children. This book is great read for Teachers to engage their students in some rich conversation. Another great book to read is āDear Earth: from your friends in Room 5,ā written by Erin Dealey. Each year I read this book my students become so motivated to do their part to save our planet. Be sure to add these books to your classroom library. Happy May my Teacher friends!! #earthday2026ššļøš¾š±šø #earthmonth #kindergarten #kindergartenart
Hot Cross buns for everyone!!! What a fun week leading into Easter for my Super Kās!! This week my class enjoyed listening to the story āHot Cross Buns for Everyone,ā written by @author_ytm . My students learned about this fun Good Friday tradition celebrated various countries around the world including Guyana š¬š¾ and Jamaica šÆš². My Super Kās were thrilled at the idea of making their own hot cross buns in the sensory tray. The children had so much fun using kinetic sand to mold their creations. The children added raisins and icing using beans and white pipe cleaners. We also made hot cross buns baskets to collect our Easter eggs for the Easter egg hunt. This was definitely a hit in my classroom!! Happy Easter š£ long weekend teachers!! Enjoy every moment! #hotcrossbuns #happyeaster #diversebooksforkids #fulldaykindergarten #booksforteachers
Black Excellence in Kindergarten!! ā¤ļøš¤šHappy end of February everyone!! My Super Kās enjoyed a number of Black Excellence inspired learning activities, such as literature and intentional play during the month of February. We had a wonderful month of learning in Kindergarten and we will continue our learning throughout the remainder of the school year. Teaching young children in the Early Years is an optimal time to introduce young children to anti-Black racism and discrimination. As I read books about Viola Desmond and Rosa Parks my students were able to make connections to both stories and relate the content of the stories to their current life. We talked about what living in a segregated community would look like for their teacher and friends in our class. We talked about the boycott and why that was a great way to solve the problem of inequality. Our conversations were centred on genuine care and compassion for others. My motto has always been.. āteach it and they will preach it.ā I am so proud of my little kiddos and all the work that I have done with them this year. The highlight of our learning this month has been all the fun activities that I set up in the classroom from the Black hair salon, to beading braids, to counting by 10ās using Viola Desmondās ten dollar bills, the children have been fully engaged. The highlight of the month for me was seeing the amazing Canadian author @miasworldbookclub present for the grades4-8 at my school. She talked about her wonderful books and the importance of representation and identity. Thank you again @miasworldbookclub for visiting my school š„°. Teachers remember that it is never too early or for that matter too late to teach children about ārace, racism, and discrimination.ā Remember to keep teaching Black Excellence beyond the month because the identities of Black children is an eternity.ššæāš¾. #blackhistorymonth #blackexcellence #antiblackracism #antiracismeducation #kindergarten

Get @reshare_app ⢠@learningblackismajack Happy Black Heritage Month friends!!! I was back at it again it this year decorating my schoolās display case for Black History Month. This year I was given the insurmountable task of decorating not one but THREE large display cases. The display cases at new schools are just huge!! This was definitely a big challenge for me but I thought of all the wonderful display cases that I have had the pleasure of doing at my previous school. Like my past display cases it all came together in the end. This was a huge undertaking for me but luckily I donāt throw anything awayš. I was able to reuse my Caribbean dolls, artifacts and fabrics. It was also nice to have a staff member donate some her personal items from her time spent travelling in Africa. So happy to have a group of ladies at my new school who donāt hesitate to offer their friendship, helping hands and words of encouragement. A Huge Thank you to @xo.michie.xo & @blackbeauty_365 !!! So proud to be Black and to have the opportunity to educate others about Black history. āš¾āš¾#happyblackhistorymonth l#representation #blackpeople

I had an Amazing time attending @author_ytm brand New Book launch on Saturday!!! I was so excited for this new book about the contribution of Caribbean soldiers serving for šØš¦ in the World Wars. This is @author_ytm first historical childrenās book and she did an outstanding job highlighting this aspect of Canadian history that has been omitted from our history books. This book tells more than just the history of our people, but it also affirms our identities, our cultures and our place in the history of this country. I was totally blown away by the fact that soldiers from my fatherās homeland of Antigua played a role in the Canadian army and the World Wars. Not to mention that several other Caribbean islands also took part in the World Wars. This childrenās book is so informative that both children and adults alike will learn so much about their own heritage and also fall in love with this book. I am looking so forward to reading this story to my class and even more so to the other Black students at my school. Teachers make sure that you get a copy of this book and donāt forget to tell your librarian to purchase a copy for the school library. Black children and educators deserve to know that they come from a long line of excellence and as a result their identities should be celebrated. Do you want to build a snowman?āļø Hello friends!! With all the snow that we have had here in Ontario this week it seems only fitting that my Super Kās built snowmen!!!āļø Sooo itās the second week back to school after the holidays, in the middle of getting back into routines, doing assessments, and the dark cloud of report cards dangling over my head. With all that I decided to do something fun this week and ease some of the tension that comes with teaching in January. So my Super Kās created snowmen with loose parts. Ohhh, how I love to see my studentsā eyes light up when they get the opportunity to be creative through their artwork. My students and I had so much fun making these adorable snowmen. They kids were so excited to choose their own materials and create their own little masterpieces. We have been reading a few of my favourite winter stories all week and my kiddos are loving these stories just as much as I do. We felt inspired to build our own fun snowmen. So despite all the stress that comes with being a teacher in January, paired with the snowy weather that brings shovelling, horrible driving conditions, and stressful yard dutiesā¦. there is an element of fun. But of course the best thing about snow and being a teacher in January are ā¦ā¦.. the SNOW DAYS!!! Oh the pure joy last Thursday morning brought so many of us!! I hope you are all having some fun in your classrooms and finding some joy in the midst of this snowy January. If not, itās never too late to build a snowman !āļøāļø #fulldaykindergarten #picturebooksforkids #picturebooksforchildren #diversechildrensbooks #kindergarten
New week, new month, new Year!! Well we officially survived the first week back to school after the holidays!!š My Super Kās enjoyed some fun New Year books and activities this week. My classic favourite go to New Year book is āShante Keys and the New Yearās Peas.ā This book is such a wonderful introduction to how diverse people and cultures celebrate the New Year. For the character in this story it was all about preparing a special cultural dish using black eyed peas. My students were able to learn about different foods and celebrations on a global level as well as within their own classroom. The children made New Year shakers and filled them with black eyed peas. We also made our faces and attached New Year noise makers. It was such a fun way to kick off the back to school blues for some of the students and even for some teachers š. I hope everyoneās first week back was filled with some fun and excitement despite the dark cloud of report cards lingering over our headsš«. Hello friends! Itās been a hot minute since I last posted. December has been a wild month filled with many ups and downs. The struggle is REAL my fellow teachers!!! I know we are ALL looking forward to the holiday break. Amongst my ups this month I wanted to share some of my diverse kindergarten provocations that I paired with some inclusive Christmas & holidays books from @author_ytm Itās so important to make this time of year inclusive to all the students in our classrooms. Representation and identity matters to the students in our classrooms. Children need to feel valued and seen in their learning environments. If you are looking for some great inclusive holiday books for your classroom, check out these amazing stories and donāt hesitate to bring these stories into your kindergarten studentsā play. Also donāt hesitate to share these books with other staff members. My substitute ECE was so surprised by @author_ytm book āA Piece of Black Cake for Santa.ā She made so many connections to her childhood growing up in Guyana š¬š¾ and to her present Christmas celebrations with her own children. Sooo glad that I could introduce her to an inclusive Christmas story. Another win for me this month was being a part of the first BPA (Black Parents Association) meeting at my new school. Itās so exciting to know that this group of parents will be the very first at this brand new school. I am praying for a lot more ups than downs in the New school Year. Hereās to many more ups!! Happy almost holidays everyone!! #diversechildrensbooks #diversebooksforkids #christmas #kwanzaa #kindergarten #kindergartenteacher #kindergartenbooks #provocationsforplay #provocationsforlearning
