New shipment: Aphelion - McLaren Vale, South Australia Working with top vineyards in McLaren Vale, Rob and Louise Mack are producing a range of wines that showcase the region’s diverse terroir – right down to unique plot-by-plot bottlings. David Sly (Decanter Magazine) paid them a visit recently… ‘I kept addressing the question of how to allow each vineyard site to shine, and that presented fresh challenges with every vintage. It was as much an intellectual exercise as a physical task, and I absolutely adored the focus it demanded.’ - Rob Mack (winemaker). Grenache, in the hands of McLaren Vale’s most astute producers, has become Australia’s take on grand cru – rare, idiosyncratic and expressive, indicative of exemplary sites. Much of it hinges on the age of the vines, which run up to 120 years. Blewitt Springs – home to the Brini family vineyard – is an especially sought-after subregion of McLaren Vale. Its soils are characterised by deep sands and pockets of ironstone. A constant feature of the winery’s portfolio has been Confuence, a clever regional blend designed to show Grenache’s rich savoury mid-palate. It brings together fruit from different Blewitt Springs sites, with a range of winemaking techniques applied to different parcels, from whole-bunch ferments to extended maceration. It captures the magic mix of sharp, youthful vigour and smouldering old-vine persistence supported by supple tannins. Meet the makers: Wednesday June 4th we will have Skye and Charlie of @paralianwines pouring their wines for consumers at @dans.ldn in London. Coming and meet this winemaking couple and learn all about their passion project which is rapidly gaining pace (and a loyal following) back in Australia and now abroad. Grenache is a focus, but really their main goal is highlighting the potential of the old vines at their Springs Hill vineyard at their home base in McLaren Vale. Please join us for what will be a fantastic evening. This is a ticketed event - ticket sales through Dan’s.

“We practice regenerative agriculture and follow organic under-vine principles. Our priority is soil health and as such eschew the use of inorganic weed management. Diversity of both flora and fauna in our vineyards help support a balanced ecosystem that in turn, maintains the enduring health and longevity of our own rooted old vines. A mixture of soil types (deep red volcanic heavy in basalt, grey clay/loam and deep alluvial river flats) all on sandstone provides a unique medium for us to explore different varieties and subsequent wine styles. Wines and vineyards are certified through Sustainable Winegrowers Australia” says Breaking Ground winemaker Ollie Margan. @margan.bg

LC Selections is proud to announce that Breaking Ground has joined the portfolio. Producer: Breaking Ground by Margan Region: Hunter Valley, NSW Who: Ollie and Alessa Margan Breaking Ground is the label of siblings Ollie and Alessa Margan of the Hunter Valley. After both completing their Viticulture and Oenology studies, the pair are making these wines as a breakaway label to that of their family label, Margan Estate. With a contemporary vision both in the vineyard and winery, and a renewed focus on regenerative agriculture, the evolution and improvements in some of the estate vineyards have led to a set of wines showcasing a gentle approach to winemaking. Texture, energy and brightness typify these wines, consisting mainly of emerging varieties such as Albarino and Barbera. No inoculated yeast, added acidity, fining or filtration. All wines are sustainably certified, Vegan friendly and made from estate fruit. @margan.bg
