Some history you read about. Some history tells the story of who we are.
Starting May 30, the LBJ Library brings you face-to-face with the documents that shaped America—from Brown v. Board of Education to the Fourteenth Amendment and the Wright brothers’ patent. Each one reveals a story—of struggle, progress, and possibility—that still shapes the nation today.
As America approaches its 250th birthday, experience “The American Experiment: Pursuing Our Promise” exhibit—a rare, limited-time look at the stories that built the country.
Pull up a chair. There’s a place for you here.
Opening Saturday, April 11, What We Bring to the Table: Tales of History and Home invites you to explore the American story through one of its most familiar spaces—the kitchen table. Through personal stories, everyday objects, and immersive moments, discover how generations of families have shaped—and been shaped by—the nation’s history.

A new look. A powerful story.
Our refreshed permanent exhibit reopens Saturday, March 7! Experience LBJ’s presidency like never before through immersive storytelling, hands-on interactives, and new perspectives that connect the defining moments of the 1960s to the challenges and conversations of today.
Journey from his early ambitions and rise to power to the fight for civil rights, the Great Society, and the pivotal year of 1968. Whether you’re a history lover, a student, or visiting for the first time, this revitalized experience invites you to explore the past — and think forward.
Few shows have shaped how Americans laugh at politics quite like @nbcsnl .
Thank you to @alecbaldwininsta and @darrellchammond for joining us at the #LBJLibrary for a hilarious and insightful conversation about comedy, impersonating presidents, and the lasting impact of political satire on American culture. And thank you to everyone who joined us!
Congratulations to the @txst Class of 2026! 🎓
Long before becoming president, Lyndon B. Johnson was a student at what was then Southwest Texas State Teachers College, graduating in 1930. While on campus, he led the debate team, edited the student newspaper, and began building the skills that would shape his future in public service.
Today, his legacy remains part of TXST—from campus landmarks to the iconic statue in the Quad, where students touch his hand for luck and celebrate their graduation by featuring the distinguished alumnus in their photos.

#OnThisDay: #PresidentJohnson escorted guests around #LakeLBJ in #GraniteShoals, #Texas, in his notorious Amphicar.
A known prankster, #LBJ loved “frightening” visitors by driving straight into the lake—claiming his brakes had failed. 😅

Happy #512Day, #Austin! In our archives, this photo is described as: “#LBJ walks past an uncluttered Austin skyline.” What do you think LBJ would make of today’s skyline? 🤔
