Friday brings us the LBC Fair and Blue Ribbon Contest, with ceremony, music, and maize art celebrating indigenous heritage at 630pm on Atlantic and 44th

Saturday has us exploring nature with some garden art therapy at @farmlot59 , discussing food and healing with Aliye Aydin, and enjoying a full service MEHKO dining experience at @vidakitchen in Lomita

Sunday takes us to the oceanfront for a market tour @marinafarmersmarket and a seaside hang with local fishers at Belmont Pier

Every spring, I look forward to the Long Beach County Fair in Bixby Knolls, a space where local growers come together to connect and share the beauty of growing our own food.
This year, I entered kale and celery from our garden. It was such a joy to be surrounded by people from so many diverse communities all bringing a piece of what they’ve nurtured and created.
So grateful for organizations like Long Beach Fresh that help keep this spirit alive in our city. 🌿

It’s official: Long Beach is launching a MEHKO program! 🎉
As one of just four cities in California with its own health department, Long Beach had to go through its own ordinance process, even after LA County launched its program in 2024. It’s been a long road, with nearly two years of outreach and ordinance drafting, but this is an opportunity residents have been asking for since 2019.
The City expects to begin issuing permits early this summer.
Huge shoutout to Long Beach Fresh for leading the local coalition, and big thanks to Orale, the Vendor Justice Committee, Long Beach Forward, and Public Counsel for their partnership. Also grateful to Councilmembers Zendejas and Thrash-Ntuk for their leadership in getting this across the finish line.
Stay tuned for more details about Long Beach. We’re excited to support implementation as the program rolls out!
