Weeks posts
Raglan has had a good run the last couple of weeks. Heres a couple from a @ken_hansen_photo_surf . One I could have been a bit deeper and one I should have punched out of.

Another awesome experience representing the Raglan Point Boardriders at the Club Championships yesterday. We couldn’t quite get the win finishing second to Bay Boardriders. Huge effort from our team @billystairmand @calebcutmore @alani.morse111 @theotmorse Big thanks to our club President Luke Hughes @uncle.kook who came across and supported, coached and organised all the logistics. Also the Morse family who fed us on their bbq all weekend. Surf photos @photocpl

I’m pretty happy to feature in the long awaited book Unbound: VOL 1 by @ramboestrada His photography is of such a high calibre. It is easy to to see how he has become world renowned for his work. This day was flawless and some of the most perfect waves I have ever seen in New Zealand waters.

It felt like a long time since getting back to my favourite part of the world. It was great reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones. Cheers to @sahrullakey1237 for shooting my last two days of surfing and @hughessurfboards for banging out 3 boards for the trip. The orange one in the clip was a 5”11 SB21 Model which I used on the small to medium days which went like a treat.

A special shout out to my amazing students at The Raglan Surfing Academy for pulling off the biggest junior comp of the year.-The NZ Schools Surfing Championsips. I have been away on holiday for over a month and came back to the students along with Deane having the whole event organised ready to go. Each of you performed your individual roles over the last two days to a high standard . Proud of you all!

Indo quiver ready to go thanks to my shaper Luke Hughes . I have been riding @hughessurfboards for just over 20 years. The first 10 years the legendary Craig Hughes was making them. Devastatingly Craig passed away 11 years ago. The surf community lost a legendary shaper, unique character and a devoted family man that will always be remembered. Young Luke stepped up to the plate with gusto and took over the shaping role of his dad. 10 years of solely riding Lukes boards and each batch of boards seem even better than the first. It’s a real special feeling working with a local shaper who surfs with you(and rips) and then sitting down and discussing board design and dimensions and coming up with something perfectly suited to what you want… and that ongoing feedback feed forward chat. Cheers @uncle.kook for the quality in everything you do. Let’s hopefully go 10 more years at least!

This looks like a savage burning so I will try and justify it haha. @sammathers had just re-entered the line up and was sitting deeper towards Boneyards. Generally with the local crew whoever has been waiting the longest has the right of way for the next set. I decided to go hoping Sam would pull off behind me but as I glanced over my shoulder I saw he was locked in. Sam being one of the best backhand tube riders in Raglan would have made it and been even deeper, if he decided to go and I hadn’t ruined his line of attack. We checked in with each other afterwards and we were all good with the situation. A similar scenario happened not long back when @brie.bennett faded me when I just paddled out to get the wave of the day and her best barrel of her life at that stage. So if you are out there and get dropped in on it could be for a reason. Thanks to @raglan_coastal_content for sending me the film. Cheers to @hughessurfboards for the right boards ii the right conditions!

Yesterday’s swell was pretty flawless and relentless. It was great to see all the local crew stoked and getting some special waves for the memory banks. Thanks to @raglansurfphotography for capturing this one.

The Surfing Academy students had the privilege of having Owen Wright drop in to school for a suprise visit during class time today…shared his amazing story and then stayed for an extended Q & A with the groms.

Epic weekend representing @raglanpointboardriders in pumping waves along with @calebcutmore @uncle.kook @theotmorse @alani.morse111 at the Hurley Boardriders Championships at Whangamata. Special mention to @keyholeboardriders who entertained the crowd and with club stalwart @elliotpaeratareid scoring two 10 point rides. Also big ups to the Tairua team in their first year fielding a team lead by @seanpeggs and nearly taking it out. But once again the @bayboardriders clinched back to back wins in a well deserved victory. See ya all again next year! Thanks to @photocpl for capturing all the surfing images of the event.

Last weekend swell was ideal with light winds and a clean long period swell. There was a guy down the line looking to go which pushed down the last section.. lucky I got a quick escape through the doggy door. Cheers raglan_coastal_content @ripcurl @hughessurfboards
