Lawrence Meju’s prevailing notion is that Happiness is, above everything, a choice - an internal state one wills for themselves, and critically, one which can be consciously manipulated. With A Tender Defense, Meju extends the idea that happiness is rooted in personal responsibility. Happy continues. The exhibition remains on view through April 25th. Tuesdays – Saturdays | 11am – 6pm You can also explore the works via the link in our bio. #exhibitions #contemporaryafricanart #odaart #happy

HAPPY - Lawrence Meju Title: In Good Company Medium: Paper on Brazilian hardboard Size: 120 x 90cm Year: 2026 Lawrence Meju’s prevailing notion is that Happiness is, above everything, a choice - an internal state one wills for themselves, and critically, one which can be consciously manipulated. Meju’s pieces dance freely within the gap between real and surreal, his vivid use of bright reds, yellows, blues and greens, intentionally wrought to uplift its viewers: he seeks to emotionally transport his audience, the works themselves an exercise in enacting the same purposeful transformation of emotional state which he seeks to affirm and comment on in his work. ——— Opening: Saturday, April 4th 2026 | 1:00 - 6:00 PM Address: 10 Sir Samuel Manuwa Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. #exhibitions #contemporaryafricanart #odaart #happy

HAPPY - Lawrence Meju Lawrence Meju is a Lagos-based visual artist and designer whose work reflects on growth, time, personal connections, and our relationship with the environment. He holds a B.Sc in Architecture, and his practice produces works that are both deeply personal and resonant. Meju works with textured paper, paint, and digital media, transforming everyday materials into layered visual narratives. His process-driven approach emphasizes materiality, abstraction, and emotional depth. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Adidas Flagship Store in London, the Desire Lines exhibition at Affinity Gallery, Lagos, the +234 Art Fair (2024–2026), and the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London. In 2023, he was named runner-up for the Visible Artist Award at London’s House of St. Barnabas, and he was shortlisted for the Myma Art Prize 2025. His work has been featured in Colossal (2025), Contemporary Collage Magazine (2024), and Subo Art Magazine (2022). Meju presented his debut solo exhibition, Fragments: A Symphony of Shapes, at Alliance Française de Lagos (2024), marking a key moment in his artistic development. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Lagos. ——— Opening: Saturday, April 4th 2026 | 1:00 - 6:00 PM Address: 10 Sir Samuel Manuwa Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. #exhibitions #contemporaryafricanart #odaart #happy
