💦 WE MISS YOU 💦 Lavender Kitchen’s programs are still on hold while the kitchen gets fixed up! We’ll be back with a brand new plan and so much food as soon as we can. In the meantime, we’ll be sharing some food for thought in our grid and in our stories. Tune in, chime in and chat with us!! . . . . . Image Description: The image is on a white graph paper background. At the top of the image the words “kitchen updates” appear in red typewriter font. In the centre is a video of a commercial kitchen with a visible leak problem: several plastic bins and buckets are placed on the floor to catch dripping water. The floor is wet with visible puddles, reflecting the ongoing leak. Stainless steel kitchen equipment and shelving are visible around the area. Surrounding the video are handwritten-style notes with arrows pointing to the image. On the left: “The roof of the building has been patched up temporarily and we’re getting brand new ceiling tiles!” On the upper right: “puddles, buckets & tarps, oh my! our leak is still slowly dripping.” On the lower left: “but a more permanent repair to the roof is still needed.” Along the bottom: “cross your fingers for a few rain-free days to start the permanent roof repairs!!”

We need student and community input. How has the kitchen closure impacted your semester? What does Dalhousie's slow response mean for its largest stakeholder body? You're disappointed, and so are we. We want to hear about it. Feedback form in our Linktree. In the meantime, Sexton Breakfast Club is still up & running. Grab a bagel Tues/Thurs in the Emera Idea Building from 8:15 until they run out.

KITCHEN UPDATE: March 26th marked 1 month without regular kitchen operations. The Loaded Ladle exists to provide free food for students, and our operation depends on reliability and accountability to our community. You come to campus trusting we'll be there with a free meal. We cannot operate on Studley campus without a working kitchen. We cannot fulfill our mandate without action from Dal Facilities and the Dalhousie Student Union. On March 24th, we called in a health inspection for the kitchen. The report clarifies that we are unable to prepare or serve food until the leak is fixed, kitchen is inspected for mold, and ceiling tiles are replaced. These repairs are outside Ladle's jurisdiction, as outlined in our space use agreement with the DSU. We can reasonably assume that if the Loaded Ladle were generating revenue for the University, our concerns would have been addressed by now. We're exhausting every possible avenue to make sure the kitchen is back in working order as soon as possible. More soon. Love, Ladle
