In 2018, @luklomp and I wrote a magical little story about three best friends hanging out in Montana. This collaboration led to a music video set to one of my ALL TIME favorite songs - "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by the legendary @theofficialccr 🙇🏻 I always thought of that iconic shot in "Brokeback Mountain" - where Heath stands under the fireworks. I wanted to capture that American spirit, but for the next generation. @craftrecordings took a big swing and entrusted me & my vision. I wanted to evoke the same kind of spirit as "The Last Picture Show" or "Before Sunrise". This was a dream project with dream collaborators. Without them, this video would be dust in the wind. I remember when @sunsberries and I thought 50K views was big. To think it's passed 500M is wild 🤯. 46,000 YT comments later, this video has touched so many. I even receive emails from folks across the country...moms, dads, their children...they thank me & our crew for making something so relatable. As a reminder of this sweet experience, I framed a newspaper article that the @bozchron wrote about our project. It always brings me joy knowing we birthed this into the world. BTS: Chapter 3 ✍️📓 For our second day of filming, we broke the schedule into two parts: 1) filming in our aunt and uncle's lovely clothing store @manhattandenim followed by 2) picture car and b-roll in Playa Del Rey. BTS: Chapter 2 👬👭 It takes a village...every time. Lots of things have to go right. Prep, collective energy, a lot of cars on the same highway. Maybe that's why these lyrics by The Supremes cracked me up, as I realized how fitting this 🤣 You can't rush the process or the lighting or the set dressing. Just be patient and zero in on quality, every time. Leaning into the zen, present nature, waiting for the right wave...all of that is filmmaking. You just have to plan and be ready for it. I always try to surround myself with A players and kindness. That kind of spirit and attitude and competence all adds up. And if we're creating an environment in which actors can play in and feel comfortable in...that's all that matters when you hit record. All for the shot. From 8am - 9pm, we filmed over 9 setups in all different rooms, constantly changing lenses, and transforming sets.
