"There’s a quiet discipline in Laurel Holmes’ work. An insistence on looking closely, and then looking again. In pieces like Fragment of a Season I, Night and Day, Mapping a Season I and II, she reduces the landscape to its underlying rhythms: flow, tension, erosion, stillness. Her prints and paintings aren’t descriptive - they’re responsive. They hold the feeling of a place rather than its image." Jennifer Reynolds, State of the Art Gallery, Cape Town.
Its lovely when someone else writes about one's work. These works and others are a direct result of walking in the Cederberg, where one is made to just be in the spirit of this remarkable place. For more, see link in my bio.

"Re the print cabinet, it was gifted to me by Malcolm and Ros Christian when they closed The Caversham Press. It had stood in the Caversham studio for over 35 years, and had housed mainly the editions of many of the Spirit of our Stories prints. Then I gifted it to you where it has a new home where it will be treasured!" Mandy Conidaris
I am so thrilled and grateful to have received this drawer cabinet from Mandy. Its not just further storage space (who doesn't need it?) but the history that comes with it is really special. See Mandy's blog on the ''Spirit of our Stories" or go to the link in my bio /news/spirit-of-our-stories-1995-prints-reflecting-a-time-and-place
Opening today in Johannesburg at @thegalleryjhb .
When I lived in Joburg, @theatelierjhb was my framer. Always a highlight to go into the shop, and see the very cool works of other artists up on the walls, and fabulous books, especially the children's books.
Pop in if you can.
My featured work: 'Writing in stone IV', etching, edition of 6.
I was honoured to receive an invitation to the five year commemoration of the Jagger Library reading room fire. As I entered (compulsory hard hat as its an active construction site), it was with a sense of the surreal. Walking into the shell of the library, it brought back that sense of disbelief and deep tragedy after the fire.
However, the phoenix will be the reimagining of a new repository for information amd materials, a new accessibility to the materials held here.
I was moved to see the memory boxes (porcelain), titled Weight of Loss, I made in response to the fire, during my post graduate diploma at Michaelis, as part of the exhibition.
This exhibition is open to the public for the next few weeks, with guided tours twice daily. Tours can be booked online /.
