Whether youāve been here a while or just found me, I thought it was time I reintroduced myself properly š«¶

Mondays are my day with my daughter, so work gets parked as much as possible
At a recent @womeninbusinessni event, I was asked about maintaining boundaries while being self-employed, and this is a boundary I try really hard to protect because I know how easily work, admin and mental load can spill into everything
I definitely donāt always get the balance right, but Iāve realised the small intentional moments matter and this mindset on a Monday helps manage unnecessary stress. Especially in this season of life.
Working parent life can feel like a constant switch between roles, so Iām trying to get better at being where my feet areā¦š
(Also, this song š„¹!!!)

Such an uplifting and inspiring morning at the @womeninbusinessni Just Connect Newry event š
These opportunities to connect and have conversations matter so much! It really was a privilege to be part of them, sharing my personal and professional experiences
I left feeling incredibly encouraged by the conversations afterwards and how many women resonated with what I shared around working parenthood, supporting employees on parental leave (and how itās more than just a tick box exercise), early years, and the realities of juggling both.
Thanks to @womeninbusinessni for the invite, to @collettekelly37 for hosting, and my fellow panelistās @cc.photography.ni and @sylviamoorhead š«¶
Also a shout out to:

- I was fuelled by our conversations and your incredibly kind words š
Looking forward to whatās next for us all!
Did you know this?
Itās not just talking to your child that matters, itās the back-and-forth that really makes the difference!
Those little moments when they babble, you respondā¦they point, you name itā¦they chat, you respondā¦
Thatās their brain building language, vocabulary, connections (and more!) in real time!
And the best part? You donāt need anything fancy, expensive, or planned. Simply tuning in and responding is enough š
Learning happens in everyday moments!

Still soaking in the magic of @nanny_con š
What a day - full of connection, conversation, and so much heart. From the thoughtful touches (this note š„¹) to the energy in the room, it truly is a conference with a difference
I was delighted to share the line up with an incredible group of early years shining lights @jamel.carly Soofia Amin, @talk.and.move@emoties_people and to hear Greg Bottrill @canigoandplaynow speak so positively about my session was a very special moment āŗļø
Iām feeling incredibly grateful to have been on @nannysharz speaker wishlist - an easy yes, and one Iād say again in a heartbeat. Thank you!
Hereās a little snapshot of the only footage I have. More to come š
Oh and this affirmation cardā¦I mean, I have never felt more seen!! @nannysharz You know me well!!
Weāve all said itā¦āHow was your day?ā
āWhat did you do today?ā
And weāve all had the same replyā¦
āFine.ā
āNothing.ā š
The truth is, itās not that children donāt want to share.
They just need a little more help to get started.
So instead of closed questions, try opening the door to conversation:
⨠āWhat made you smile today?ā
⨠āWho did you sit next to?ā
⨠āWhat was the best part of your day?ā
⨠āTell me something funny that happenedā
⨠āWhat are you looking forward to tomorrow?ā
And hereās the important partā¦
When they answer, pause. Let the conversation breathe. Follow what they say, even if it goes completely off track!! (Hello life with a 4-year-old!)
Because those back-and-forth moments?
Thatās where the real connection (and learning) happens š«¶
And I mean, properly played?
Not supervised. Not watching from the side.
Actually joining in and feeling the joy!
I spent the weekend doing exactly that. This photo was taken by my dad, which made me really nostalgic. I was always outside as a child, on some kind of adventure. Now Iām living it all over again with my daughter š„°
I see play differently through my work with parents and Early Years settings.
So many parents feel pressure to ādo moreā to support learning, even when life is already full.
And so many educators talk about how hard it can be to step into play when the day is structured around timetables, expectations and routines.
But play doesnāt need more of anything. It simply needs you to prioritise it and allow yourself to have the freedom. And when children see you let loose, wellā¦..
Thatās where connection and learning REALLY happens š
Be honestā¦when was the last time you actually played?
Such a big milestone ā¤ļø
If your little one is starting school this year, Iām in this with you soā¦
Iāve put together a FREE session to help you feel confident about what really matters

Real life lately has looked a bit like thisā¦
Days out, time at home, work squeezed in, and a house thatās definitely not always calm š«
In the middle of it all, Iāve been thinking about school readiness - the looming confirmation of school places does that! Not in a ābetter start ramping up the phonics wayā, but in a āwhat actually matters?ā way
So much of what really prepares children happens in everyday life - conversations, household routines, emotions, messy, real moments! (Iām putting something together to support parents through this next week - more soon š¤)

Our nervous systems are speaking all the time - yours and theirs - so here are a few ways to regulate, restore, and reconnect to help keep the calm for everyone ā¤ļø
Whatās your top picks for over the weekend?
Iām aiming for some phone-free time, getting outside, and a few good hugs would be great!
