ABOUT US
LatStudios is an award-winning multidisciplinary design collective with offices in both Brisbane and Melbourne. As design professionals, we aspire to shape inspirational environments of enduring quality. We are dedicated to delivering projects that inspire and contribute meaningfully to our communities and the natural environment.
Working with and for community to protect and celebrate culture is why we exist.
Troy and Shayne (who we haven't properly introduced to you yet but stay tuned!) were recently lucky enough to travel to Gummingurru, just north of Toowoomba, QLD. The trip was alongside our friends at Gummingurru Aboriginal Corporation, the Traditional Custodians and caretakers of this living cultural site, and Damian Thomson from @latstudios_ .
The visit was part of a Master Plan project for the site to allow visitors to learn and connect to the site, celebrating its context as a living cultural landscape, while also protecting it for generations to come.
Thank you to Gummingurru Aboriginal Corporation for thinking of us for this project and for their guidance as we get underway alongside the broader team.
A place to call home, a story of re-use: our Brisbane Meeanjin Studio has a new home.
We set out to find a space that was not only centrally located to promote active transport options to and from work but also a ‘green’ building with recycling facilities. We found that space at Level 5, 100 Creek Street.
Rejecting standard wasteful fit-out processes, we worked to creatively repurpose and recycle much of the existing office fabric and former tenant’s furniture & tech equipment while integrating precious items from our past studios.
Our studio team worked with the team at @woodlandfitouts and building management Cromwell Property Group to bring this vision to fruition.

What great news to hear this morning - the people have spoken!
We're over the moon that the Green Grid is the community's top legacy project for Brisbane's run to 2032, as part of Council's massively popular Making Our Mark campaign.
Queensland's Design, Planning and Engineering Institutes have supercharged our decade long Green Grid initiative for Brisbane to the next level as Green Pathways Gold Places, and we can't wait for the next leafy steps to be taken to link up our favourite inner-city destinations.

After 7 years, The Glasshouse is officially open! It was very exciting to attend the official opening Gala on Thursday night and see this incredible theatre in action.
It’s been a long and rewarding journey with Economic Development Queensland and lead architects Blight Rayner & Snohetta for Arts Queensland, with the consultant and delivery team recognised for going above and beyond to deliver this significant new building for the arts in Queensland.

The Urban Forest Precinct Plans (UFPPs) for the St Kilda & St Kilda West and Albert Park & Middle Park Precincts are out for community engagement!
LatStudios are collaborating with City of Port Phillip to prepare two more UFPPs, building on our work on the successful UFPP for Balaclava and St Kilda East.
The UFPPs support the delivery of Council's Urban Forest Strategy 2024-2040, guiding and prioritising targeted and neighbourhood specific tree planting and biodiversity projects for a healthier, more diverse and connected urban forest.
The Draft UFPPs are now available for community engagement on Council’s online engagement portal. This milestone reflects a collaborative effort between LatStudios, City of Port Phillip and Swinburne University.
The project uses Swinburne University’s Walk Quality Assessment tool to take a data-driven approach to prioritising canopy interventions and address the challenge of retrofitting tree canopy in a constrained, established urban environment.
Have a look at the draft documents and share your thoughts here (links also in bio):

An important milestone for the Bald Hill to Merri Creek Landscape Master Plan.
The Master Plan Options Development Report is now available for community engagement. This marks a significant step in a collaborative process involving many project partners working together to shape the future of this important landscape.
LatStudios has been working with @mitchellshirecouncil to explore future possibilities for the Bald Hill to Merri Creek landscape and develop a long-term vision that strengthens ecological values, improves access to nature, and enhances connections across the landscape.
A key part of the project has been working with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to ensure Traditional Owner knowledge and perspectives are embedded and help guide the future of this place.
The project also builds on the foundation and vision of the marram baba Future Directions Plan, with the marram baba Working Group continuing to play an important oversight role in the project.
The Options Report outlines potential directions for the corridor, and we’re looking forward to hearing community feedback as the project moves into the next stage.

Director Wendy Davies and Practice Director Glenn Hay presented the freshly minted City of Gold Coast Private Development Landscape Guidelines to a fantastically diverse group of around 150 people at HOTA on Thursday.
Having spent many years working on the Guidelines with the City of Gold Coast City Design and City Development landscape assessment teams and PSA Consulting, supported by important industry peer review from members of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, we were really excited for this best practice document to become publicly available and set the standard for what private landscape should be at the Goldie!
The guideline supports applicants in delivering high quality outcomes that boost urban tree canopy, enrich biodiversity and reinforce established local subtropical character. Wendy presented the principles, strategic thinking and overarching aims of the guidelines with an emphasis on The Why? and The How? with Glenn discussing a variety of LatStudios’ projects at the Gold Coast and elsewhere that have successfully implemented the principles in a constructed outcome and talking generally about how great trees are!
Thanks to City of Gold Coast for hosting us and to all the enthusiastic attendees who asked so many interesting questions. We encourage you to check out the guidelines for yourself!
