The practice of basket weaving spans time and many cultural traditions. Here in California, basketry is an integral part of life for indigenous peoples. They’re used for both utilitarian purposes while also demonstrating skill and artistry. They often exhibit elaborate designs that are based of geometric and mathematical concepts. The sculptural practice of basketry continues to evolve as artists incorporate ancient traditions into their work. Check out some incredible examples of historical basketry techniques spanning many traditions and the contemporary artists who are adding on to the conversation of basket weaving. If you already have some experience in weaving basketry, join us for our upcoming basketry workshop with artist @rosetsang.worklife Intermediate Sculptural Basketry🧺✨ Two sessions: June 6th-7th Saturday and Sunday 10:00am-3:00pm Sign up with the link in our bio🌾 Photo credits: 1.
