This is the largest tapestry I’ve made yet, though there is now a larger one in the works.. this piece has also burst open the doors to some new 🆕 large sculptures.. feeling this even more now.. The Shape of It Felt, shipping blankets, netting, thread, fabric, batting, Icelandic wool, Icelandic fish net, parachute chord, cotton, yarn 9’x6’ 2024 Putting it all on the table in this new work. Someone asked me where the video for this piece went. I said I had no idea. That feels right. This is what I found instead— the beginning, 2023. Right before five surgeries. Right before everything changed. I was standing on an edge, knowing I wouldn’t be made of the same parts again. Knowing I might forget what that felt like. Now I’m five months out. Total hysterectomy/oophorectomy— the whole factory, gone. Double mastectomy. Reconstruction. Same body. Not the same body. I’m in awe. I’m in grief. I’m still figuring out how to be here. But something is opening again— through the work, in the work. I don’t know what comes next. But I know it starts here. #formertits #tapestry #shiftingbody #grief #awe

Across these works, feminized bodies appear fragmented, packaged, devoted, sexualized, ritualized, and generative—absorbing pressure, stabilizing fragile systems, and carrying unseen burdens and capabilities. Moving from the intimate scale of gesture and domestic space to collective ritual and maternal lineage, the program traces the ways bodies become sites where social forces accumulate, collide and persist. This companion group show will run alongside Kim and Svetlana’s two-artist exhibition, Shapes of Imposition, from March 14 thru April 18.

🔥As It Burns. New work that has felt soooo labored on for over a year Started this piece a year ago as our city was burning and have been continuously sewing, felting, weaving, patching, breathing, crying, screaming into this piece as our country feels like it’s burning.. I think a lot about what we are doing during these times, what we are thinking about, how we are resisting/showing up and out/ standing for our neighbors, communities, students. That art is and has always been political. Last night we witnessed an incredible performance of art and joy as resistance during a time we really don’t feel anyone is hearing us- it brought a profound sense of light into the dark, a sense of hope. A reminder. I think about who do we want to be today? How will we reflect on these times? Did it get the best of you? Keep going. Keep making. Get louder.
