At the edge of an abandoned city reclaimed by wild nature, Nina tries to place an order for a strange offering. Tonight, the longest night of winter and the most anticipated of the year, anything is allowed.
Anticuerpo is unlike any traditional folk horror in the sub genre. We're embarking on a visual oddessy between vast winter landscapes, a blood stained slaughter house, and an underground nightclub of sorts where every desire is catered for. These all bend to the whim of an overarching dystpian landscape which boasts its fair share of striking cinematography opportunities.
We capture glimpses of events affecting our lead but like breadcrumbs scattered on a woodland floor, they're few and far between and don't provide a full picture. I feel if Anticuerpo had the luxury of being a feature length production, we would have had some exposition, but given how utterly engrossing the visuals are, I really didn't mind. This is such a radical take on traditional horror as we know it, more of an arthouse style offering that really embelishes bold ideas and creativity. I for one cannot wait to see what is next for directors Ludmila Rogel and Sofia Chizzini as this is so breathtakingly memorable it'll leave you wanting more.
