I have been holding onto a bunch of raw footage from a couple different Jay Leno Boston club standups from 1985. This short bit of political jokes was from a tape with badly recorded audio so I never used it in a story. We couldn’t air “bitch” back then anyway.

I shot and edited this about a year ago. The song is called, The Nexus by the husband and wife team, Ramuun (@ramuunmusic ), who are also solo artists in their own right. @lunazaka writes and performs her own unique and deeply emotive songs. @narayanfromzion is a songwriter, rapper, performer, and a lifelong visual artist working in various mediums. He’s developed a line of original art clothing with Luna and has published some truly astonishing coloring books. I’m proud to say they’re my friends and neighbors up here on Pine Mountain.

Music: "Talkin' Bout a Revolution (Live)" written and performed by Tracy Chapman (1988) I made this for our little town of Willits, California where our second NO KINGS protest officially drew 850 people, a number equal to 18% of its 4,752 population. Way to go Willits! Thanks to the great organizing by Willits Indivisible.

From the smoke-filled alleys of mystery… a velvet curtain parts. A saxophone wails. A trench coat disappears into the shadows. And suddenly— like a femme fatale stepping out of the darkness— ✨OKTOBERLESQUE: A Night at the Movies ✨ is revealed. Not just a cabaret… a case file. Sequins sharper than switchblades. Music that grabs you by the collar. Costumes that kill. This is cinema where the curtains bleed velvet, the popcorn tastes like sin, and the red carpet leads straight into temptation.

Special thanks to Janis Ian, Joan Baez, and Jess Leary for allowing me to use their recently released song and to Janis for posting the video on her Facebook page. The video was released on YouTube quickly, within 24 hours of the protest ending. I thought I shouldn’t ignore Instagram. So here it is. I think most protests don’t change anything. Except I remember how those dirty hippies as they were often called, organized continual unrelenting national protests, and over time, they convinced the public that Vietnam was the evil war it actually was and it ended. Protesting in the streets does work when the scale of it is large enough to reach critical mass.

@cindycrawford graciously poses with a fan at a Las Vegas video convention. I took this in the early 90s on Kodacolor II film. #35mm #35mmfilm

My first short film from 50 years ago, later shortened. I know it's a bit weird. I prefer to call it experimental. I've not shown this since I lost access to a projector. Try not to judge it too harshly. Although making fun of it is probably appropriate. It was shot on an Arriflex 16mm film camera with 100' magazines and a zoom lens. Audio was recorded on a Nagra reel to reel. Locations: Plum Island, MA and the Kenmore Station of the MBTA, Kenmore Square, Boston.
