If you didn't get the chance to meet Norma (@lapir0 ) at our recent event at CJ's Skatepark, let us introduce you. 👋 Norma Ibarra is a professional adventure and action sports photographer who knows exactly what it takes to capture the perfect moment at the park. She dropped some tips at the event, and we think everyone should hear them. Know your skater's stance so you can position yourself to show their face, keep your shutter speed high (unless you're shooting with flash and want to get more creative), and make sure you're capturing the obstacle from take off to landing. To nail the timing of a trick at its peak, study up on skate videos and magazines to really learn the sport. Practice, shoot a lot, and most importantly, have fun. 🛹📸 #CanonCreatorLab #skateboarding #Photography

It’s with a lot of pride and enthusiasm that today I share with you “PARA TI” my first ever photo book.  With this book I want to shine the light on my Mexican skateboard community. I want to remind you that despite your age, culture, identity, abilities, gender or preferences skateboarding is FOR YOU- PARA TI.  I hope this book inspires more people to get on a skateboard, to shoot photos and videos, to document their community and most important to uplift their communities to create a better inclusive and safer space for everyone.  A dream come true!  This book is dedicated to my inspiration and biggest supporter, my mom @lamomahmo who is a librarian I always dream this could be the best gift I could give her. But also to my Dad and my Grandma who passed away during the making of this project.  Thank you to everyone who made this project possible, @vans @ucanskate , my mentors and everyone who allowed me to take photos of them for this project. Everyone who has supported me along the way. #paratisk8book

So special to witness Canadian basketball history at my first WNBA game while shooting for Getty Images. Definitely one of those experiences that pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best way. Learning in real time, adapting as I go, and growing through every moment of it. Grateful for the opportunity and excited to keep improving...

Let me introduce one of our Panelists on "From Passion to Profession: Creating Sustainable Social Skate Careers" panel. Norma Ibarra (she/they) Organisation: Freelance / U Canskate Role: Photojournalist, Community organizer, Cofounder Ucanskate Location: Mexico, Canada, United States Links: @lapir0 | | @ucanskate | @shoobyduby Bio: Norma Ibarra is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist, photographer and community organiser whose work focuses on documenting resilient communities and diverse identities around the world. Through photography and storytelling, she explores themes of representation, belonging and collective resilience, with a strong focus on skateboarding and grassroots culture. Her practice centres on creating and documenting inclusive spaces where women, queer and BIPOC communities can see themselves represented. She is also the co-founder of U Canskate, an organisation using skateboarding to support Indigenous communities in Mexico, with a focus on women and girls. Her work has been published widely across editorials, campaigns and exhibitions, and she is the author of the photobook Para ti (For You). In 2023, she received the Lens Person of the Year award from Skate Like a Girl. Why this work matters to them: Norma’s work is rooted in her own experience of not always seeing herself represented. She uses photography and skateboarding as tools to build community, shift narratives and create spaces where people feel seen, valued and able to belong. What they hope participants take away: An understanding of how identity, collaboration and community can create meaningful impact, and inspiration to contribute to and build within their own communities. #socialskatesummit

What an amazing weekend full of learning, sharing, and pure inspiration ✨ Being surrounded by people who care deeply about storytelling and community reminded me why I love photography and documenting history 📸 Listening, learning, sharing… and leaving with fresh ideas, new connections, and the understanding that there’s space for all of us in photojournalism. We each bring something different and together, we can create impact and drive change. Also so happy to be back in Toronto and reconnect with my @RoomUpFront community and meet my peers from the @tgamfoundation inaugural photo academy ❤️
