🌍❄️ Art meets Arctic science in Rome ❄️
On March 3–4, some members of the EXTREMES project joined the
@arctic_circle_org Arctic Circle Forum in Rome, where experts, policymakers, researchers, and innovators gathered to discuss the future of the Arctic, climate challenges, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
🧊 Our project brings art and science together to explore and communicate Arctic knowledge and deep-sea life in new ways. During the forum, our artists
@lands_where and
@hekladoggjonsdottir performed a live exhibition using audio and visual recordings from our latest EXTREME 25 expedition, transforming environmental sounds and field data into an immersive artistic experience.
It was a powerful way to experience Arctic research differently, connecting scientific observation with emotion and sensory perception.
❄️ Beyond the performance, our researchers also took part in inspiring discussions with international stakeholders about the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in understanding and responding to the rapidly changing Arctic.
❄️ Moments like this help build partnerships, spark new ideas, and keep the conversation about the Arctic’s future moving forward.
A big thank you to the organisers, CNR (the National research Council of Italy)
@cnrsocial , our amazing
@giulianapanieri , director of the Italian Institute of Polar Science
@cnr_isp and everyone who contributed to the inspiring atmosphere in Rome!
And yes, there was also a quick visit to the National Galllery of Modern Art
@museiincomuneroma for a little artistic inspiration. Because even Arctic researchers need art sometimes. 🎨😉
