So this time last year , in the middle of the world falling apart , I had the biggest moment of my artistic life ( so far ;) …the moment that led towards many more moments with @ladygaga … the moment she walked out at the VMA’s in my now iconic “ red horn “ mask… it still seems like a dream to me to be honest . I can’t believe what this last year has brought me . My luck and blessing are not lost on me . I know I have been extremely blessed to have had this , and many other wonderful opportunities. I just wanted to say Thank You to Lady Gaga and her team , most notably @marta.del.rio and @nicolaformichetti , for being so kind and treating me and my work with such respect and glamour. It gave me a career . It changed my life. And I will not waste the opportunity. 🔹🔹PLEASE READ AND WATCH IF YOU SUPPORT FAIR PRACTICE IN FASHION 🔹🔹 So I’ve held back posting this until now ,as I felt I wanted to conclude my year with a statement , and to start the new year with fresh eyes …. This film was supposed to have been a joyful peak behind the curtain for the making of my face jewelry and masks for Iris Van Herpen @ irisvanherpen #irisvanherpen this last year . When I shot the BTS footage , I had such high hopes for how this “ collaboration “ would all turn out . I now find I NEED to put this out , as there is still great confusion on who made the masks /face jewelry . I hope this film will definitively clear that up . To be clear, these were ENTIRELY created , designed , and paid for by me , at Iris Van Herpen’s request . They sought me out , and put all the work load on me . With no help from Iris or her team , and with no funding of any kind from her or her atelier . Only promised credit , which only came after i publicly called her out for omitting my credits on many occasions . , yes , indeed , if you see a pic on her page with my credit ‘now ‘, it’s there , but only done after the fact and retroactively. Which on instagram or in print magazines … doesn’t amount to much , days or weeks after posting or gong to print . I will be posting in the next few days ALL my conceptual work I created for her as well , which is my sole intellectual property , since although many were unused , her and her team made it very clear they were “ interested in using some of them later on “ and felt “ inspired “ by many of my sketches . But there will be no later use , and I want to be clear of what I designed so that there is never any confusion again over her “ inspiration “ taken from smaller artists . Im incredibly grateful to the talented @leimsworkshop and @acoolglassofmilk for not only putting this mini film together but also for getting me to feel comfortable showing a side of my work i rarely ever do . The past is a vague photograph… So I was recently given these unseen and rare photos , by an anonymous person who knows of my struggle for any media of my work from this time ( and too whom I extend my extreme thanks 🙏) These styling and prep photos are of my work being paired before the @ irisvanherpen Iris Van Herpen 2022 couture show titled “Meta Morphism “ . Shot at the IVH atelier in Amsterdam. It’s a rare glimps behind the scenes of the intricate pieces I created for her, on my own,… I could never have guessed while these photos were being taken ; the ultimate heartbreak that would follow this experience; but the light in these photos gives me hope to keep shining … and to any of my fashion friends out there ; feel free to share these as my work has been steadily erased ( just go see her traveling exhibit and the literal “ photoshop erasing “ of my work from runway photos in her latest book ) and I continue to fight for credit to this day . #irisvanherpen #maskart #headpieces #facejewelry
