Profe Hirugami of @curatorlove will be the instructor of Museum Studies 092 “Introduction to Museum Studies” for Spring 2025.
About Profe Hirugami
She is a first-generation transnational Mexican-Japanese immigrant, formerly undocumented.
Hirugami holds an MA in Art Business from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, in conjunction with the Drucker School of Management and Getty Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate University. Her most recent MA in Chicanx Studies from UCLA is entitled “Political Art Action: The Aesthetics of Undocumentedness.” Hirugami also holds a BA from UCLA in Art History with a focus on Chicano and Mexican Studies. She is currently a lecturer and doctoral candidate at UCLA, where she epistemologically braids the aesthetics of undocumentedness to challenge immigration policy and politics through contemporary art while challenging curatorial ethics.
Hirugami is the founder and CEO of @curatorlove , Co-founder of the @undocpluscollective , the ED at @arthistorysocal , a Professor at @smcarts and @claremontgraduateuniversity . She had been an @arts4la Fellow, @nalac_arts NLI Fellow, @culturalvistas DAICOR Transnational Fellow, and a @cci_arts Catalyst. As a @gettymuseum and @kressfdn Foundation Fellow, she has developed curatorial statements at museums across Mexico and the United States. After being a Public Art Curator for the Department of Cultural Affairs (@culture_la ) in the City of Los Angeles, she led various commercial galleries. She has curated exhibitions for galleries and museums across the globe, and her written work has been published internationally.
Currently living and working in Los Angeles, California—the unceded land of the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash peoples.
