On Thursday, we present “One Million KM” a solo exhibition by Franco-Italian photographer Myriam Meloni @la.meloni , where a vintage car becomes the lens through which to explore technology, inequality, and colonial legacies in Morocco. They say, that the damascena rose came from far away, traveling along ancient routes, from Syria all the way to Morocco. They say, that you need to pick it early in the morning, as its scent is more vivid and stronger, and that later it fades in the heat over the course of the day. The flower is fragile and must be handled with care. In Kelaat M’Gouna, the rose is celebrated not just for its beauty, but because it provides work for an entire community. Later it ends up in perfumes, creams, and tonics, but first there are hands that plant it, pick it, weigh it, and distill it. Da anni, attraverso i suoi progetti, Myriam esplora temi urgenti come migrazione, marginalizzazione e disuguaglianze sociali, intrecciando storie personali con narrazioni socio-politiche di ampio respiro. Amiamo il suo lavoro per l’approccio fotografico delicato, profondo ed empatico che lo caratterizza. La mostra, intitolata “NELLE GIORNATE CHIARE SI VEDE EUROPA”, propone una riflessione critica sul movimento delle persone, siano esse in viaggio per scelta, necessità o costrizione. Photography as an excuse. An excuse to connect. To come closer. To share our desires, our fears. To look at others. To look at ourselves. From near and far. What a privilege it was to be there. Surrounded by so many beautiful women. Brave. Joyful. Self-aware. Ambicious. Eager to learn and to share. It has been a long journey. Full of comings and goings. Of questioning how and why we do what we do. Starting today, April 24th, the 20th edition of @fotografia_europea opens its doors. At Palazzo da Mosto and the University of Reggio Emilia, you’ll find fragments of this creative journey— a process I had the pleasure of imagining and shaping through a series of participatory photography workshops along the Swahili Coast. A process I had the joy of sharing and building with artists @nelsaguambe @gertrude_faith and @halimagongo Big thanks, to the @weworld.onlus team—on the ground and in Italy— for bringing me on board. And especially to @arieledimario and Daniela Riva, whose enthusiasm made the impossible possible!

We are excited to host “On Clear Days You See Europe”, the solo photography exhibition of Italian photographer Myriam Meloni ( @la.meloni ). Opening on Thursday July 11th at 7 PM, the exhibition will run until September 15th 2024 in the American Arts Center main gallery. “By juxtaposing the narratives of young European women who have relocated outward to settle in Morocco with those of young Sub-Saharan women embarking on the reverse journey, but find themselves stranded in Morocco en route to Europe, the exhibition aims to stimulate an open dialogue regarding migratory processes, and highlight how movement— whether desired, necessary, or imposed—remains a reflection of entrenched privileges rooted in colonial history and perpetuated by present-day policies.” Myriam Meloni Artist Talk : 6 PM ( AAC Theater) Exhibition Opening: 7 PM (AAC Main Gallery) Exhibition Curation by Sonia Borsato.
