The design vs. where we are today at the East Coast Farmhouse Project. This one is so fun to see come together. For the Northern Retreat project, the fireplace became a true collaboration with Orijin Stone. We had originally selected a different stone, but there were concerns about how it would hold up in fabrication. So we pivoted.From there, it became much more of a hands-on effort. The clients were really interested in the process and actually went out to watch the stone being cut, which was pretty fun to see!A lot of what you are seeing in this fireplace was very intentional. There was a lot of back-and-forth, looking at how it would be cut and how the pieces would come together. The primary bedroom was positioned to engage directly with the surrounding landscape.As the home shifted on the site, the bedroom wing moved into the surrounding orchard that was already on the site. Bringing natural light into the lower level was a key part of this home’s design.The stairs were placed along the exterior wall to pull in the west light, allowing it to travel down into the lower level and brighten the spaces below. What could have felt secondary instead feels connected to the rest of the home.There are subtle details in this design that reinforce that experience. For instance, we created a curved ceiling edge to soften how light moves in the space, catching and diffusing it as it changes throughout the day.These small moves make this lower level feel anything but below ground.Project Team:@charlieandcodesign@liquidpink_interiors@l.cramerbuilders@yardscapes@spacecrafting_photography
