The emergence of Artificial Intelligence is changing the internet. It is also threatening to change the physical landscape of communities across Kentucky, as an influx of tech companies seek to build “hyperscale” data centers here to support the growing demand for AI and cloud computing. Join experts from Kentucky Resources Council and Sierra Club Kentucky on May 21 at 12 p.m. on Zoom for Big Tech Unchecked: What Every Kentuckian Needs to Know About Data Center Development Before It’s Too Late. 🏭⚡ Together, we’ll discuss what large-scale data center development could mean for Kentucky, from increased energy and water demand to land conversion, rising utility costs, and environmental impacts. We'll dig into why many counties lack meaningful safeguards and what YOU need to know about data centers coming to Kentucky. This 1-hour Zoom conversation will also cover how data centers are sited, what local leaders and residents should consider during the decision-making process, and how communities can engage effectively. We’ll introduce KRC’s model ordinance and a new handbook designed to help communities better understand proposals and strengthen local responses. link in Bio and story

Kentucky Resources Council is petitioning the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a hearing on Global Laser Enrichment’s request to license its nearly $2 billion uranium enrichment project in McCracken County. KRC’s petition raises two questions: 1️⃣ whether the U.S. Department of Energy has the authority to sell its depleted uranium to a private company and 2️⃣ whether the environmental analysis for the facility is sufficient. Every week in Kentucky, decisions are made that can shape communities for decades, often without much public visibility. KRC tracks utility proposals, regulatory changes, and development projects, digs into the details, and shows up where it matters most to help ensure every Kentuckian has a voice. In honor of KY Gives Day, your support goes twice as far thanks to a $10,000 match. If you’ve ever wondered who’s watching the fine print and speaking up when it counts, it’s KRC, and it’s only possible because of supporters like ✨you.✨ Give today via the 🔗 in our bio! #kygives #kygivesday
