From mid-April through May, reporter @theartist_mbs and I went to the Capital Hill Boys Club in Southeast D.C. to observe and document the inaugural Anacostia Mural Festival. More than 70 artists gathered at all hours to turn a once-dilapidated street corner into something beautiful. Many artists gave homage to the city’s unsung heroes. my unfinished masterpiece. the idea of doing a mural was so overwhelming to me. frightening even. the idea of not being good enough… that’s when i knew i had to do it. ain’t nothing worldly allowed to have that much power over me. thank you to everyone that encouraged + supported me during this process this last month. who held my uncertainty + wonder. thank you for allowing us to grow deeper in community. ultimate thanks to @chbcartgallery for the new canvas, the challenge, the network, the opportunity to grow. so many ppl got the chance to do their first mural this spring. the community came together to protect + advocate for us day after day while allowing our art to uplift them. i give thanks for being able to continually take part in all the revolutionary work you’re doing for US! love, love, love✨🤲🏾💚 east of the river bred ⚡️⚡️⚡️ soufeast gon always feel like home. stay tuned for the finished yeah! 🫶🏾 oh + my man is really him. ase. asante sana 🤞🏾😮‍💨💕
