Get to know our guest conductor for The Power of Fate: Earl Lee. Winner of the 2022 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, Korean-Canadian conductor Earl Lee, @earlleeconductor has emerged as one of the most compelling and versatile artists of his generation. He has led many of North America’s foremost orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In August 2025, Lee stepped in on short notice to replace Zubin Mehta in the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Tanglewood, where The Boston Globe praised his interpretation as “an unhurried, momentous ritual…the finale nothing short of spectacular.” Learn more about Earl Lee through the link in our bio!

See Deantha Edmunds @inuksoprano perform ‘Angmalukisaa,’ live as part of Morning & Night with the KW Symphony on April 10 & 11! 2025 JUNO award-winning composition ‘Angmalukisaa,’ which means “round” or “rings” in Inuktut, is a multi-song cycle that speaks to how we relate to one another and our planet. The song explores the theme of rings: the rings that tell the age of a tree, the spiral structure of an iglu, concentric sound rings, and ripples of water. Deantha wrote the lyrics in English and they were interpreted and translated into Inuktut by Mary Nashook of Nunavut. This work was commissioned by Mark Fewer and Deantha recorded it with Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Sinfonia on the JUNO-nominated classical album ‘Alikeness,’ conducted and produced by Mark Fewer with Leaf Music. See the lyrics to each movement here, alongside photos taken by Deantha. The photo for Movement III is of Deantha's daughter Annabelle's grade 3 science project. Deantha notes that, "In 2019, we learned about cymatics on 'The Science of Sound' episode of Dr. David Suzuki's The Nature of Things, and she asked if she could explore this in her Curiosity Fair project. She did a simple experiment using a metal plate, her violin bow, and salt, to show what sound could look like. It was so interesting, and the idea of cymatics stayed with me... what sound waves look like, and also how the vibrations we create with our voices as singers travel and change the energy in the spaces we inhabit in our time here on earth.
