Our 25/26 season finale brought Maestro Earl Lee (@earlleeconductor ) and the A2SO back to Hill Auditorium for an evening filled with powerful music, contagious smiles, and celebratory cheer! From the shimmering first notes of Caroline Mallonee's A2SO co-commissioned work Lakeside Game, to the deeply moving performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto, brought to life by the exceptional Maximilian Hornung (@maximilianhornung ), and the transcendent beauty of Holst's The Planets, featuring the UMS Choral Union (@umspresents ) in its final, otherworldly moments, the evening was nothing short of phenomenal. 🪐🎻 We'd like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the Martin Family Foundation, Michigan Arts and Culture Council, and National Endowment for the Arts for their generous concert support. We are also deeply grateful to our musicians, volunteers, stagehands, and Hill Auditorium staff who brought this evening to life — and to you, our community, for filling the hall with your exuberant energy and supporting our mission throughout the year. Stay tuned for news about our 2026/27 season coming very soon. 👀 Photos: @charlottesmithphoto

Following last season’s powerful performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, the Colburn Orchestra and conductor Earl Lee return to Walt Disney Concert Hall with another larger-than-life program. Two atmospheric works—Samy Moussa’s 2021 piece Elysium and Richard Strauss’ famous symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra, best known for its use in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey—bookend the concert with soaring melodies and theatrical tone shifts. In between, the lush orchestration and sparkling virtuosity of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto provide a break from the musical theatrics. Earlier this month, audiences experienced a journey across sound, space, and time with “Star-Crossed Rendezvous”—an immersive collaboration between LA Phil Insight and MOCA that physically spanned the museum galleries and Walt Disney Concert Hall. The evening began at MOCA, where acclaimed artist Haegue Yang’s multisensory installation invited audiences to explore the legacy of the late Korean composer Isang Yun. Then, the experience continued at the Hall with a performance of Yun’s 1977 Double Concerto for oboe, harp, and small orchestra by the LA Phil New Music Group and conductor Earl Lee with Principal Harpist Emmanuel Ceysson and Principal Oboist Ryan Roberts. Yang set the tone for the concert with a custom-choreographed “lighting prelude,” bringing her signature artistic abstraction into the Hall. 📸: @farahstop
