In west coast swing, we can use speed to emphasize a moment. If your phrases aren’t quite delivering, add acceleration to your toolbelt. This contrasted against your landing moment is what will get a reaction from your audience and add more dynamics to your dance overall. Follows can help achieve this, especially in rotational movements, by staying slightly under rotated going into the landing moment. They can then accelerate the last bits of that movement in their own body sharpen the moment in a way that leads simply can’t do on their own. See the way Kristen holds back just a hair until the very last moment before the dip—that extra bit of effort adds so much!
