Powerhouse is inviting you to share your Sari Story. Do you have a sari that has been passed down through generations, or one that was recently made and holds special meaning for you? We’re looking for stories that reflect the connections between saris, family, faith and culture. S‌ubmit 🔗‍‍‍‌‍ in bio‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌ Sari Stories has been developed in collaboration with @badamisunil , @aartibetigeri , and @kumar_anu ‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌ 📸 @kumar_anu

“if only we can take the time: contemporary Australian photography” considers how the impulse to observe, to record and to share continues to propel photographic practice in Australia today. My work from Ghar and new work taken on more recent visits to my hometown of Kavi Nagar are on display at the National Portrait Gallery till the 2nd of March. “Working with a medium-format camera, which pulls incidental details into clear focus, Kumar catalogues the everyday objects and quiet corners that have been shaped by generations. The portraits that structure the sequence feature family members in moments of rest and private ritual. A grandmother naps, an uncle waits as the henna he uses to dye his hair sets. Time feels suspended, and the fabric that drapes across surfaces, both beds and bodies, only amplifies the stillness.” National Portrait Gallery if only we can take the time: contemporary Australian photography Daily from Saturday 30 November 2024 until Sunday 2 March 2025 Curated by @ipp____ , framing by @arten_framing , printing by @peter_hatzipavlis , install images courtesy of @portraitau

Honoured to be exhibiting new work after a long time, alongside works from Ghar at @portraitau . Sharing the stage with the best @k_koenning @yingang , and thoughtfully curated by @ipp____ . ‘When I started taking these photos, it was about discovery and learning … but it’s now more about the slow process of saying goodbye … I’m focusing on grief, in a way, and how we make sense when people go – through the possessions they leave behind, the house they lived in. I’m interested in how we use ritual and religion to make sense of the world after we’ve lost someone.’

Ten years ago I bought a $300 camera from Gumtree to take photos of my family in India. Slowly I started to piece together an archive that became my first book, Ghar. Today I'm excited to share that Ghar has been shortlisted for the @aperturefnd first book award 👏🏾Thanks to the team @perimeterbooks @narellebrewer @wilco_artbooks 🤍

“Water is important to people who do not have it, and the same is true of control.” - Joan Didion On Holy Water is an exhibition responding to the essay by Joan Didion (Holy Water) and takes a look into the contributing artists’ individual relationships with this element. It invites contemplation and reevaluation on our collective link to water, and takes a deeper look into what our own stories may tell us. Thanks to @sarahjwalker__ for curating such a considered show with some of my favourite artists @sarahpannell @3mmaphillip5 @georgiasmedley @sarahjwalker__ @jamesabugg @_greysea Opening this Saturday 15 JUL, 4.00-6.00PM. Open to view from SAT 15 JUL 4.00PM - FRI 11 AUG 5.00PM at @platformartsgeelong
