✨ No better way to end 2025 ✨
We celebrated 25 years of Lighting Design at KTH with two inspiring days of workshops, conversations, reflections, great food, and dancing. We brought together students, alumni, teachers, researchers, and friends from practice and academia.
Huge thanks to our founders Jan & Agneta Ejhed, to Svenssons Belysningsstiftelsen for the long-term support, and to everyone who has shaped the programme over the years.
These days were not only about looking back, but also about looking ahead: new ideas, changes, and developments in the education are on the way.
Thank you for being part of our Light Family.

Do you want to know what the students did during September?
Each students’ team transformed a small office (3×3×3 m) using only one light source selected from three available options.
The goal was to explore how light shapes space, materials, and atmosphere, creating an immersive experience rather than a decorative object.
Through testing and experimentation, each installation reveals how light can change the way we perceive a familiar space, turning it into a place of visual and sensory discovery.

💡 The Light Symposium was initiated in 2008 by Michael F. Rohde, professor emeritus of the Master's program in Architectural Lighting Design at Wismar University of Applied Sciences. Prof. Rohde retired in September 2024. Since November 2024, Prof. Jan Blieske @janblieske has been in charge of the conference at Wismar University of Applied Sciences.
🤝 The conference is organised annually by four partners from Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden on a rotating basis: Aalborg University, Copenhagen (AAU); Wismar University of Applied Sciences; the University of South-Eastern Norway, Kongsberg (USN); and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH). The Light Symposium has been held in Wismar in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021. In 2010, 2015, 2018 and 2023, it was held in Stockholm. In 2022, it was held in Copenhagen, and in 2024 it was held in Kongsberg.

The Light Symposium 2025 is organised by the Master’s pro-gramme in Architectural Lighting Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences.
Architectural Lighting Design is a discipline that carries a special responsibility. Consciously planned lighting not only influences our perception of architecture and the environment. Daylight and artificial light also have a significant impact on human health and the integrity of the natural environment.
The symposium is aimed at a wide audience from the fields of science, lighting design, architecture, urban planning and industry, as well as students and teachers of architectural lighting design courses.
