Kristin Smith, Sammy Smith's mom, shared with Idaho's three-time Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong about what it's like to raise a multi-sport athlete.
Taking what you learn in practice and putting it into game play is so hard. The JV team fell a little short last night, but it was a fun night on home court. Love seeing Lucas take his hard work behind the scenes and put it into play. 🏀 💛
No matter what it is your chasing, I’ve always believed the journey is the best part of high performance, enjoying the progress and growth each step along the way.

How do you want to live your best life?
This week, Kam Wheeler sits down with Kristen Armstrong to talk about the choices that shape our final chapters. Inspired by the book Outlive, Kristen challenges us to think intentionally about the last 10 years of our lives—and how the pivots we make today determine the quality of tomorrow.
As humans, we’re wired to strive, to grow, to pursue what’s better. But wanting change is one thing… taking action is another. This conversation dives into that gap—between desire and discipline—and what it really takes to close it.
Your life’s final decade is being built right now.
Are your daily actions shaping the future you want?
It’s not about talent. It’s not about luck.
It’s about doing what everyone else won’t do.
The 1% aren’t superhuman… they’re simply willing to outwork, out-discipline, and out-commit the crowd. Kristin shares the mindset that carried her to the top and the habits that separate high performers from everyone else.
🔸 Do the uncommon
🔸 Choose the harder path
🔸 Become the outlier
This is what it means to be the 1%.
When life hands you setbacks, greatness answers. 💪
Kam Wheeler sits down with Olympic legend Kristin Armstrong, who broke her collarbone just nine weeks before the Games. Headlines said she was done. Pain said to slow down.
But champions don’t quit — they rise.
Kristin pushed through recovery, fought through every mile, and came back to win Olympic gold.
A reminder that trials don’t define you — your response does. ⭐️

Most think coaching to the pinnacle of sport is all grind, data, deep talks, and a type AAA personality. And yes, that’s part of it.
But what people don’t always see is the joy, the friendships, the tears from laughter, the fun that makes the journey unforgettable.
@chloedygert@emmawhite7 thanks for being YOU and reminding me it’s not just about the finish line, but the ride together. 💙

Freshman year… here we go.
This morning felt like one of those “where did the time go?” moments. Our usual tradition — photos before the first day (a love hate experience for Lucas 🤣) but this one hit differently. A freshman (though still in a Junior HS). New chapter. Bigger dreams.
I know everyone says it, but it’s true… time flies. And that’s why we capture these moments— the smiles, the nerves, the little glimpses of who they’re becoming. Here’s to your freshman year, Lucas. Let’s make it one to remember. ❤️
University of Idaho, you never cease to amaze me. No matter how much time passes, every time I return it feels like home—so warm and welcoming. Huge thanks to Brooke and Melissa with the College of Education for the awesome tour, and to the Vandal Basketball crew for putting on the best camp ever! It was so fun walking around campus, hanging out downtown, and reminiscing with Joe (also a Vandal) about the good ol’ days… poor Lucas had to hear all our stories. 😅

It was a privilege to be at @boisetwilightcrit supporting the next generation of riders. A few start-line fist bumps and a lot of big smiles — these are the moments that stay with you.
📸 Grateful to @idahobikebrian for capturing this.

MOTHER’S LOVE! 😍
The touching story of cyclist Kristin Armstrong and her son Lucas. 🥰 🚴♀️
Proving her doubters wrong after injury and motherhood, Kristin Armstrong won Olympic gold in the women’s individual time trial at Beijing 2008🏅 London 2012, and🏅 Rio 2016 — making her the only cyclist to win the same Olympic event three times!
