The reviews are in for Freshworks artist LaTrea Derome's A Conversation. Pittsburgh critic Guillherme Meletti Yazbek shared his thoughts about the work-in-progress on OnStage Pittsburgh, which explored the vantage point of Black bisexual men through dance and spoken word:â
â â
"In turning to his own life as primary material, the artist situates personal experience as both a poetic resource and a site of inquiry, sharing it with the audience in a gesture that feels at once intimate and disarmingly direct. What is placed on stage is not only a story, but a process of self-articulationâone shaped by the pressures of navigating Black bisexuality within intersecting frameworks of race, gender, sexuality, and faith."â

Every project name starts with a question. For Strata, we needed something that could hold the weight of the work â a word that spoke to culture, politics, history, and the people at the center of it all.
From that, a single word surfaced. Strata. Layers of rock. Layers of strategy. Each one shaped by what came before â because culture and politics arenât separate categories. They layer and wrap around each other to tell the story of where weâve been and where we can go.
This is Strata: A Cultural Political Conversation â dig in, look closer, go deeper, and letâs have a chat.

Freshworks artist LaTrea Derome shared his thoughts on his upcoming work-in-progress, A Conversation. â
â
"This work is an offering â of stories, of truths, of space for unheard voices. As you witness A Conversation., I invite you to lean into curiosity rather than judgement, to sit with what resonates and what challenges you, and to hold space for the fullness of these experiences. Let this be a place to listen, reflect, and begin or continue a conversation."â
