I’ll be giving an artist talk today, Sunday, Sept 21st at 2pm @thegibbesmuseum !! It’s FREE and open to the public! ALL are welcome!! I’ll be in conversation with the brilliant @stephanieeallen about my current solo show, Praying With Two Dirty Hands. We’ll have a little audience Q&A at the end so come with questions! Help me celebrate the end of this exhibition, which officially closes on Wednesday evening, Sept 24th, to make way for the work of my fellow artist-in-residence pal @dorothymnetherland and her solo show, Not In Kansas. Special thanks to the Gibbes, @southartsorg @scartscomm and @elizabethgreenshieldsfdn for their generous funding in making this exhibition possible! I truly could not have made this happen without their support. 📸 cred: @mcg._photography 🧡

I’m thrilled that I can finally announce something I’ve had to keep quiet about for over a month now! I’m honored to be named the @coastalcommunityfoundation 2026 Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year!! I was so close to not throwing my name in the hat this year….the classic self-doubt was creeping in from past rejections. But try, try again….I’m glad I quieted those voices. Hard work and persistence pay off. I’m so grateful for this award. The support and validation that come along with it mean so much to me. Swipe through to see two images of recent work and two of the early stages of pieces I’m working on now which this award is supporting. Furthermore, you can see these pieces in person @701cca on Saturday, May 16th from 2-6pm in the Artist Loft during my Open Studio hours!

✨ Now in Residence: Katelyn Chapman ✨ Katelyn Chapman is bringing her powerful, deeply rooted storytelling to 701 CCA as our Artist-in-Residence through mid-May. A Columbia native now based in Charleston, Chapman creates richly layered oil paintings that explore working-class life in the rural South—drawing inspiration from her own family, faith traditions, and the landscapes of the Midlands. Her work honors the beauty, complexity, and humor found in everyday Southern life, while reflecting on the traditions that continue to shape it. Join us in welcoming Katelyn to Columbia—and don’t miss the opportunity to experience her work up close during her residency. 📅 Artist Talk: April 9 | 6:30–7:30 PM 📍 701 CCA, 701 Whaley Street #701CCA #ArtistInResidence #ColumbiaSCArts #ContemporaryArt #SouthCarolinaArtists

I’m teaching another Expressive Figure Drawing class this February @reduxartcenter on Wednesday evenings starting on the 11th! Come escape from the noise for a little while and get your art on! We’ll be drawing from a life size skeleton and both male and female models. You’ll learn how to loosen up, be more precise with proportions, conveying the human form with accuracy, economy, and expression. 📋Sign up link in bio or thru Redux Contemporary Art Center.

I’m happy to have these two paintings hanging on the walls of @hamptoniiigallery in upstate SC! From back-to-back artist residencies @farwellhouse and @vacenterforthecreativearts where I worked on them, and later my home studio, to exhibitions @southsidegallery and @flocomuseum , “Ladders to the Sky” and “Crow Effigy” have traveled half the country and back. I’m honored to now be represented by Hampton III Gallery among some of South Carolina’s most notable and collected artists—John Acorn, William Halsey, Tom Stanley, Boyd Saunders, Leo Twiggs, and others. I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be having a solo exhibition here later this Fall. So y’all stay tuned for more!!

Artists—you invest in materials, software, & equipment—everything that you need to create. But how often do you invest in a skill that funds your art in return?? ✍️ Grant writing is one of the skills that will bring actual money into your practice again and again. 💰With over $43k in grant awards, I’ve been able to fund multiple solo exhibitions, attend artist residencies, and much more that wouldn’t have been possible at the early stages of my career without that funding support. 📚 I’ve developed a proven framework that I use every time I apply for grants and other opportunities and I’m sharing it all in The Artist Intensive with @womenunited_art_movement in the New Year! 🎨 Take this workshop once, and you’ll have a lifelong tool that supports your art AND your stability. 💫 If you’re ready stop choosing between art and survival, take the step to invest in your creative future. It’s truly the investment that pays you back! 🔗 Link in bio to register for The Artist Intensive: Mastering Your Words & Winning Grants #artistworkshop #artistgrants #grantwritingforartists #womenunited_art_movement #womenartists
