BIGGEST SPECIAL: OH MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. I can not believe what happened last night. But as look over at this beauty, who we have named Clementine, I know it is real.. and it happened. Matty and I caught a super intimate last minute headline show for one of our favorite UK bands, @bigspecial_ at @theboweryelectric . It was an early show at 5:30, so I could hit up and snap pics for them and then head to work. Perf. We saw them play @irvingplaza on Tuesday for their first NYC show ever and it was fire. Just so inspiring and delicious, so I was super chuffed to see them play a longer set and whet my BS appetite before they returned across the pond. In the middle of their set they played a song with a guitar and after told the crowd that they couldn't bring it back with them.. a similar thing I've heard from other bands touring the US from the UK, @softplayplaysoft also did this in LA recently. (Tariff madness and the crazy costs for up n coming bands) So, they offered it to someone in the crowd. And of course.. it went to @matty_glitterati and I. We were in front. I look like a punk leopard. It made sense. Funny thing is, the day before, my good friend @karen.xerri of @rxdxculousbxtch and I were filming a music video in a music shop for our friend's band and looking at guitars and we decided we wanted to take lessons together and make some dreams come true. It was kinda our secret. But I'd already started to let my inner sabotage muncheechee take over and make excuses, "you are too old to start a band" "too gay" "you dont even have a guitar" but I'd heard something from someone i look up to the other day about that voice. That imposter is you. That wall u have in your mind.. isn't real. You made the rules AND the wall. And the imposter feeling you feel.. that's you deciding to breach the wall that you created. And THAT is GOOD. So if you feel like an imposter, you are. But only because none of that shit in your head is real. (This is all from the genius mind of @jofustablet . Dammit I love u Joe) So. This is real. Clementine, meet the world. Guitar lessons are beginning. I already learned my first chord. Thank You #BigSpecial. You guys are a xmas miracle!

🐆🎸@mikeness @socialdistortion 🎸🐆 Last night, Mike Ness did a Q&A and signing at @roughtradenyc in honor of Social Distortion's first new album in years, BORN TO KILL. Growing up in Orange County, Mr. Ness was one of my heroes. A local OC punk who made it big and stayed true to his roots and kept rebeling and rocking for decades. He was and still is, the coolest cat, and I absolutely adore him. Stoked I got to meet him and am looking very much forward to his shows later in the summer. Who knows, I may just be photographing the band.. you'll have to wait n see. 🤟🫠🤟 Such an inspiration, a heart throb and a genuine good and kind soul with a legendary voice and gumption of steel. 👁 @drycleaningband 👁 My first time seeing Dry Cleaning perform live (and my first time getting to photograph them) really blew me away. They are such a unique blend of influences, sounds, textures and vibes, at times comforting, funny, harrowing, heavy, quiet and feet vibratingly intense. So, thank you Trixxie. I think we are gonna make a lot of Magic together.

I spent a lot of time on the phone yesterday with my mom friends, in a kind of circular cheerleading prayer. It’s hard to explain how much it means to me to have a handful of mothers who have been with me through thick and thin (and believe me, it’s gotten really thick, and really thin) since the birth of my own child, and this person is one of them. Melissa Auf Der Maur - aka @xmadmx , erstwhile bassist of Hole/Smashing Pumpkins, visionary artist and creator/photographer/venue-mom, and now published memoirist - and I shared a fateful bed together one night when the Icelandic AshCloud hit both of our European tours at the same time in 2010. We have stayed close ever since and it’s been one of the greatest pleasures of my life watching this old soul shine, mother, grow, retreat, and phoenix multiple times. We’ve made art, gone through hells, shared a whole long braid of life. Her new book, newly launched, is called “Even The Good Girls Will Cry: a ‘90s rock memoir” and it is required reading about becoming whole (no pun), it is about the push and pull and flash-explosion of of the 90s, and about the true-soul DIY analog vision we cannot lose. She’s a great writer. I read a draft of the book and I’m re-reading the whole jam now. Join me. She sent me a gorgeous birthday-edition copy of the finito book along with a meaningful print. The messy flow of it. The mothers are a collective and a massive river….we appear calm, but my god: do not mess with us…we flow deep with raging swirls and we will stop at nothing to carry the water from the springs to the sea. And an extra shoutout to the sibling artists like @krysfox who capture these moments with a genius family-touch. I love your heart Krys, you connect and mother with your art and I hope you know it . ♥️🔥♥️

💙@biffy_clyro 💙 Scottish rockers BIFFY CLYRO played @irvingplaza this week and this lucky duck was there with a photo pass. This was my introduction to the band, and I am now a lifelong fan. Frontman Simon Neil had me endlessly engaged and the whole band was so tight and flawless. Not knowing the commotion it would cause, I too, wore a kilt that evening and was more popular with straight rocker dudes than I have ever been in my entire life. Thanks Simon, for opening a window for my kilt lovin ass to crawl through. We attended @lipcritic 's album release party this week at @elsewherespace and scored the new album (THEFT WORLD.. which is seriously SO good) and two hand silkscreened tees by the man himself! 🪰@frankieandthewitchfingers 🪰 The hardest internetty Sophie's Choice i have ever found myself in has been trying to whittle this carousel down to 20 shots. This band gives so much. I have oodles of images I love from this set. But, I would rather put them out into the world than try to curate any longer. They can have two posts, hell, I would tour with them and give them a whole damn feed. For now, here's some of my favorites. This show at @thesultanroom with @pons_worldwide was my introduction to this band. But a few days later, and some non stop FATWF listening has already landed them in my all times list of bands. They are absolutely incredible and so made for my tastes. They are almost impossible to define, so I won't even try.. I will say they are DELICIOUS, sexy, spooky, funny, intense, badass, talented and a huge breath of the freshest air. Run to see them if they play near you.
