The idea of making the exhibition at our home was not a forced decision. It was a conscious artistic gesture — to place Art not in an institutional exhibition space, but to create a total installation at home, to erase the boundaries between the newly-bought and the inherited.
The living room was used as an exhibition space. We did not sterilize or firm it up. Everything in this space testifies to our current habitation here: dishes, yoga mat, clothes, a bicycle, a guest bed appeared and disappeared.
The selection of documentary photographs of this exhibition was not an arbitrary decision by the curator. There is no narrative, no story that can be read by walking around the room clockwise.
The concept of total installation in the rented house room emulates in a photographic language. Photographs are focused on incidental still lives crafted by individuals in their daily routines in the cities, often overlooked by the public eye.
For example, our house interior design and its changes. The interior of the room was created in the mid-2000s. The children of the owners of the house grew up here, while the authors of the exhibition grew up in the neighboring country. The stages of growth of both of them were “fixed” by the parents on the wall and in the most popular photo format of those days — 10×15.
In the same logic, the exhibition documentation format was chosen as a small photo album with memorable photos of the family event.
