1st Place 🏆 Season 3 SRMS x Comos Tires Speed Trials Finished 1st in Front Wheel Drive Modified (FWDMOD) with my 1994 Nissan Sentra at this season’s SRMS x Comos Tires Speed Trials! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 This season had 7 autocross events, with points earned at each event. My Sentra ran in the FWDMOD — home to both NA and boosted cars on 200 TW tires. This win feels like redemption. Last season, engine issues cost me events and kept me off the podium — so coming back to take 1st proves this 31-year-old Nissan Sentra isn’t a car to sleep on. 251WHP SR21VE Dyno Session | All Motor Nissan Sentra There was a 34whp gain from my SR20VE to the SR21VE. The difference from the two motors was the bottom block being bored and honed to 88mm, 88mm Traum Optimum Performance Piston which raised the compression to 12:5:1, eagle rods and ACL bearing. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: 251 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗾𝘂𝗲: 169 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲: SR20VE Bored and Honed to 88mm 2.1L Displacement 12:5:1 Compression 88mm Traum Optimum Performance Piston @supertechperformance Springs & Retainer Kit @eaglerods Rods The goal who goal was 240whp and a board power as I track this Sentra. Both goals was reached. 𝗡𝗘𝗢 𝗩𝗩𝗟 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The NEO VVL activation has been reconfigured from 5200 to 4800. This lets me get into VVL sooner. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲: I do have exhaust leak on the flex pipe. My headers sits very low. Its actually lower than my crossmember. It’s possible that this could be affecting performance, this is something I will get fix later. 𝟲𝗪𝗛𝗣: My air filter is in a box to keep hot air out and I have a Velocity stack feeding direct air from the outside. The lid of the box was removed on one of the dyno pulls and there was a gain of 6WHP. I’m super happy with the final numbers. I can’t wait to test the Sentra out on the Track! 622 whp dyno pull from a FWD SR20VE+T 1st pull was 373.97 whp. The air/fuel ratio was being dialed in for the first few pulls to make sure everything was looking good/safe. The spark plugs were checked, because of the previous dyno of the NX2000, and again the spark plugs from the manufacturer showed to be gapped too wide. After adding timing and turning up the boost the last pull reached 622.04 whp and 423.04 torque @ 25 psi. More power could have been made if the rev limiter was raised from 8300 to 8800 rpms because the powerband was still going up when Gio backed off of the gas. I’m super happy with the final numbers. Mickey Thompson ET Street R Radial Tires | Turbo Sentra The Sentra just got another upgrade. After my first night running the car at Homestead Miami Speedway, I realized pretty quickly that my autocross/track tires weren’t cutting it for launching at the strip. Too much wheel spin and not enough traction. So I started researching DOT-approved drag tires that could still legally be driven on the street while offering maximum traction at the track. After comparing setups, I decided to go with Mickey Thompson ET Street R Radials @mickeythompsontires in 225/50/15 from Summit Racing @summitracing for the Sentra. One thing I learned during my research is that the ET Street S/S and ET Street R actually use the same sticky R2 rubber compound, but they’re built for different purposes. The ET Street S/S is more street-focused with better tread life and water dispersion for daily driving and occasional track use. The ET Street R, on the other hand, is more aggressive and designed for maximum grip, harder launches, and better 60ft times at the track. Since this car is focused more on roll racing, and putting power down from a dead stop, the ET Street R seemed like the better fit for my setup. Turbo Sentra SR20VET | Fast Lane Friday First time taking the Sentra out to the drag strip… and it’s safe to say I learned a lot. Hit the 1/8 mile at Homestead Miami Speedway and got 6 passes in with the SR20VET setup. The car felt strong, but on one of the runs I completely missed 2nd gear 🤦‍♂️ killed the momentum—but stayed in it and finished the pass. I had my laptop with me and @gio94sr20ve was helping walk me through adjustments between runs — raising and lowering the 2-step RPMs and making changes to the boost by gear. We lowered the boost in 1st and 2nd gear because the car was spinning the tires hard off the line. “If your wheels are spinning, you ain’t winning.” 😅 All part of the process. Seat time, dialing in the setup, getting used to the car, and chasing consistency every run. One of the next upgrades I need to research is a proper drag tire setup. Right now I’m running autocross/track tires, which have stiffer sidewalls designed more for cornering and handling. Drag tires use a softer sidewall to help with traction and weight transfer off the line, so that’ll definitely help improve launches and consistency. For my first outing, I’ll take it. Plenty more to improve—cleaner shifts, better launches, and coming soon. This build is just getting started. QuickTrick 4-Wheel Alignment QuickString | Nissan Sentra SR20VET Got the Sentra dialed. Huge shoutout to @gio94sr20ve for putting in the time to get the alignment on point using the @quicktrickalignment 5th Gen 4-Wheel Alignment QuickString system. Instead of guessing or relying on a shop, Gio was able to measure everything directly and make precise adjustments. Gio went through toe front and rear to make sure the car tracks straight under load, especially important for a FWD setup where any misalignment can kill your launch or make the car wander on the top end and also adjusted the camber from a positive .8 to 0. Small changes here can mean the difference between spinning through first or actually putting power down. The goal was simple: stability, consistency, and maximum traction. With the Falkens up front and this setup, we’re trying to give the car the best possible chance to leave clean and stay planted all the way through the 1/8. This is one of those details people overlook, but it matters just as much as power when you’re trying to put down a solid pass.
