Last week at the Montblanc event, surrounded by beautiful instruments built for permanence, I kept thinking about how strange and lucky it is to be a writer. Give me a quiet moment and a good pen, and suddenly I’m everywhere at once, past, future, places I’ve never been but somehow know, re writing endings and opening doors that are usually shut.
