Vanity & Mirrors
This object, and the exhibition as a whole, revolve around the motif of mirroring within relationships, and around a kind of closeness that in some way disrupts boundaries. In Czech culture horse collar carry the symbolism of marriage, commitment, and attachment. The mirrors set into these forms create different stages of relational intimacy.
The first stage, Vanity mirror, remains open: the reflection still maintains contact with its surroundings. In the next stage, the mirrors turn more toward one another. The gaze begins to close in. Outer space disappears, and almost only the other person remains. The reflection multiplies into infinity. It forms and deforms into one, into a separate microcosm of its own reality.
This object could only have come into being thanks to the wonderful @honza_hruza , to whom I am deeply grateful for the glasswork and technical realization of the mirrors.

New works from Close Quarters, my solo exhibition now on view at @grimmgallery Amsterdam, until May 23, 2026.
The works move through intimacy and proximity, tracing unstable boundaries between bodies and space. Figures emerge and dissolve, resisting fixed roles, held between presence and disappearance. Closeness begins to fracture. Perception slips. The distance between viewer and subject quietly collapses.
Close Quarters refers to physical nearness as well as interior space, not as fixed rooms, but as mutable, psychological territories where reality, dreams and sensation overlap.

We are pleased to present 'Close Quarters', a solo exhibition of new work by Anna Ruth, opening at the Amsterdam gallery today, April 10. Join us and the artist to celebrate the opening from 6 to 8 pm!
The title of the exhibition, 'Close Quarters', suggests both the home and physical closeness, two ideas that shape the emotional subjects featured in Ruth’s new works. Traditionally, “quarters” refers to living spaces within a house, designated for servants or guests. In 'Close Quarters', Ruth instead invites us to explore the metaphorical quarters of her world, where reality, dreams and sensations collide.
The exhibition is on view until May 23, 2026, at GRIMM, Amsterdam (NL).

We are delighted to announce that Anna Ruth’s first exhibition with the gallery, ‘Close Quarters’, will be on view at the Amsterdam location from April 10 through May 23, 2026.
In 'Close Quarters', Ruth explores the relationship between materiality and the human condition, mapping the duality of the emotional landscape we inhabit. Drawn to the senses and her own emotional psyche, Ruth’s paintings present an undefined space, haunted by the spectral presence of ghost-like figures, insects and animals. Somewhere between concealment and revelation, Ruth returns to the body and nature as a site for conceptual reflection.

Anna Ruth presents a series of paintings that stem from her research into anthropomorphic keystones and ornaments commonly found in architecture and design. Through her works we are urged to ask whether we project our personalities onto materials around us, or if indeed the materials are alive in their own impenetrable way

~~~ The exhibition Handed Unhanded in @brookebenington reopens tomorrow for the first time after the Christmas break and remains on view until January 24. 2026 To evoke the moment of perceived presence in objects, before the viewer recognises it as a momentary illusion.
This installation brings back a character often present in my earlier paintings. Anthropomorphic tassel form.
The installation features five heads made from synthetic stone, placed in the space like imagined guardians or threshold objects.
Big Thanks to @romankvita for helping me with the production!
