I decided I wanted to start doing 5 min acapella covers as frequently as I can. I just pick up my mic, pick a song and give my self 5 mins to record and see what happens. NO EDITS, NO RE TAKES.
we may be entering into a new golden age of electronic music
it’s evident that recently there’s been an uptick in some super quality electronic music thanks to a new wave of incredible artists pushing the envelope forward, reviving the genres roots while adding a contemporary flare
this tweet from “”ethan_scraggy” was what inspired me to put this post together
tiffany day is an artist i honestly was pretty late to the party to, but her album “halo” last friday has already been taking the internet by storm. another recent project off the top of my head that has exceeded expectations is “u” by underscores. “hollywood forever” and “bodyfeeling” have some of best climactic builds in any newer electronic song that i’ve heard
there’s no shortage of that new blend between electronic and pop/dance music especially on something like “i love my computer” by ninajirachi. when you have a song like “ipod touch” or “delete” you can’t have a bad album. both super energetic and shimmery songs
while some of these albums can be more upbeat, there’s also room for some slower records like “choke” by oklou. this one falls more on the ambient side of the genre yet it has this ghostly energy that feels immensely moving. “blade bird” and “obvious” feel like deeply personal glimpses into her mind which are really moving to hear
charli xcx, slayyyter, kelela, yves, fka twigs, yeule, akriila, the list goes on. and i’m sure there are many other artists we didn’t get a chance to spotlight, but just dipping my feet into the scene with my own research and listening, this post is what i got for y’all :)
also a massive shoutout to all the producers and creatives behind these projects and songs. only get 20 tags so i tried spreading those out between each slide :) i know there are a tonnnn of creatives involved in the making of these many projects though, shoutout to all of y’all
do you think we are in a new ‘golden age’ for electronic music? who is your favorite artist out right now pushing the boundary for the genre? do you think it’s headed in a good direction?
