My series Sleepover is currently on view in the exhibition Klimax Klima at @schlossneuhardenberg . Sleepover, 2025 Series of 7 bat boxes (common pipistrelle, whiskered bat, Natterer’s bat, barbastelle bat, brown long-eared bat, serotine bat, horseshoe bat, greater mouse-eared bat) Woodcrete, CNC-carved wooden relief, oil 25 × 40 × 20 cm each The work addresses the effects of light pollution on nocturnal animals such as bats, which are regarded as sensitive bioindicators of environmental changes. When cities shine, spaces of darkness disappear – and with them those who depend on them. Sleepover consists of sculptural bat boxes that are both functional retreats and symbolic architectures. They reflect visual characteristics of the animals themselves – protective, mask-like, vulnerable – and enter into a close dialogue with my photographic series Exposed, which documents the disturbances of urban ecosystems caused by artificial light. Together, the works form a dialogue of disruption and refuge, revealing how strongly nocturnal species depend on darkness.
