The work addresses the effects of light pollution on nocturnal animals such as bats, which are regarded as sensitive bioindicators of environmental changes. When cities shine, spaces of darkness disappear – and with them those who depend on them.
Sleepover consists of sculptural bat boxes that are both functional retreats and symbolic architectures. They reflect visual characteristics of the animals themselves – protective, mask-like, vulnerable – and enter into a close dialogue with my photographic series Exposed, which documents the disturbances of urban ecosystems caused by artificial light. Together, the works form a dialogue of disruption and refuge, revealing how strongly nocturnal species depend on darkness.
