As we gear up for Puerto Rican day and having a rough week, reflecting on my contributions to my culture and the sneaker community. If you really know me my AIM name was 718sneakerqueen. I posted kicks on AIM, Sneaker Play, MySpace, Facebook etc. Any social platforms I ever touched was sneaker embodied and immersed. And Iām grateful for the journey and inspiration this has presented. (And no background music neededš¶ snoring is āØ)
Throwbackās From The Vault: A Memoir:
Let me set the scene, I started High School at 13 years old in the 90s. I took the train to Union Square everyday and SoHo, Downtown Brooklyn, 125th, 145th, Fordham, Delancey, Chambers shopping was my mfken playground.
NYC style wasnāt defined yet. Streetwear was exploratory as second generation Hip Hop lovers. All the drip superstars knew each other. Fashion was regional by borough and I was in every borough. š„¶
I loved my individuality. The goal as a culture was to dress unique, we didnāt want to dress like each other. I loved texture, material and bold designs. I loved to mix high end designer with local streetwear brands. I was the first girl in Bushwick with the womenās NorthFace Extreme. I dragged my father to tent and trails to pay $450. š Was it me or was Washington Irving High School a fashion show? How we were so young getting so fly? Idk but we were a movie š„ A bunch of kids starting early movements, killing designer and launching NY street style into what would influence global fashion for generations. What a time!?
Same for sneakers anddddd add I had to be first. I remember being early with Bo Jacksonās and āLTā shouted me out on the block ā Yo Jas, those are Pink Boās?ā I copped Flint 13s 3 months early in 97. Early 90s was my Reebok Freestyle love affair then late 90s Air Max 95 & 97 were my whole ā¤ļø.
I adored Womenās colorways of every sneaker air max deluxe, air pillars, Jordanās, TNs, etc. But we will check that in Vol. 2.
* apologies to my brother, I used to steal his jerseyās to tailor them into dresses! My Jersey dress was 98-99. Mya did that in 2000. Late 90s used to run around the roc office on 5th Avenue, def jam (was a wild place), trackmasters, hot 97 with Mooney & Star (we were marketing brats). Everyone knew me then for kicks and till this day.
Hi, Iām Jixie , my friends call me Jas. Iāve walked and stacked every model sneaker for 30+ years and I have one room of sneakers older than current sneakers lovers. Iām your favorite collectorās, blog and brands inspiration. Iāve purchased my entire collection, and I take my sneaker game seriously. Itās my sport and my art.
