Geometry has always played a subtle role in interiors. From the lines of a chair to the repeat of a fabric pattern, geometric motifs introduce structure and movement in a way that feels timeless yet versatile. When layered thoughtfully, they can ground a room, create contrast and bring a sense of harmony to eclectic spaces. From balancing scale and embracing texture, to avoiding too many geometrics in one space, which can easily feel overwhelming, head over to the blog, via the link in bio, to discover more of our dos and don'ts for decorating with geometrics. When used thoughtfully, geometric fabrics bring clarity and movement to a space. They connect decoration with architecture, while still leaving plenty of room for comfort, character and individuality. 📷 @simonbrownphotography

Fabric weight and weave quietly shapes a room, influencing not only durability but also the atmosphere, how sound moves and settles. Designing with fabric is about layering texture, where contrast and balance bring depth and purpose. Heavier weight fabrics are essential in upholstery, bringing strength, durability, and a sense of grounding to a scheme. This was central to the development of our weaves with @andrewmartin_int and @gpjbaker . These textiles, often crafted in tightly woven twill, basket weave and tapestry constructions, are designed to withstand daily use while retaining their structure and integrity. When weight and weave are considered, there is a sense of coherence, with each element working together. Join us on the blog this week, via the link in bio, as we share more on how to bring character, texture and charm, where every thread carries a story and every weight a quiet purpose. 📷 @simonbrownphotography

Barkitecture is @goodwoofdogs ’s annual architecture exhibition and competition, showcasing cutting-edge kennel design from 16 architects and artists around the world. When Goodwoof invited us to take part this year, the theme, Dogs in Space, sparked an immediate idea. The standard of entries is remarkable, and we are delighted to be among them for the first time. We worked with artist @henrywood__ , a master woodworker from the Isle of Man, whose practice is rooted in the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement, defined by material honesty, exceptional skill and a deep respect for the maker’s hand. The piece is both functional and a celebration of British craftsmanship, with a story to tell, Diego’s. The competition culminates in the Barkitecture Auction on Sunday 17th May @goodwood , hosted by @bonhams1793 , with all proceeds going to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home (@battersea ). The Legend of Diego, Astro Dog will be on display in the Barkitecture tent in the Duchess Paddock on 16th and 17th May. Come and find him. Choosing art for a room is often the final step in bringing a space together. It can feel daunting, knowing that the right piece has the power to unify everything, while the wrong one can unsettle it. Start with a theme. An artwork does not need to be expensive or rare, art reflects who lives in a home and what they value. Scale. One of the most common mistakes when hanging art is choosing pieces that are too small. Place art thoughtfully, and do not be afraid to move it until it feels right. If your artwork feels too small for the room, consider grouping pieces in even numbers to create a gallery wall that feels cohesive as a whole. We place just as much importance on the frame as on the artwork itself. Finally, think of each wall as a composition, and look beyond the most obvious places to display your art. Tucked away in the heart of Marylebone, @dorsetsquarehotel was the first in the @firmdale_hotels collection. Set within an elegant Regency townhouse, we invite you to step inside the Summer Suite, beautifully illuminated by generous floor-to-ceiling sash windows, allowing natural light to bathe the space. Our 'Falling Leaves' fabric with @andrewmartin_int from the Harvest Moon collection introduces a gentle movement and rhythm to the room and sits perfectly against our oversized statement appliqué headboard. Head over to the blog, via the link in bio, to discover a room that feels relaxed and easy-going, much like the summer months ahead, with layers of colour and texture sitting comfortably alongside one another and a sense of craftsmanship that gives personality.

Trends may come and go, but true craftsmanship tells a lasting story. Each headboard in our Moonflowers collection is brought to life by hand, layer by layer, through intricate appliqué by artist @basakagaoglu , whom Kit is proud to champion. Every stitch reflects time, skill and dedication, resulting in a piece that is not simply furniture, but a lasting work of art. #Shopkitkemp

With Earth Day taking place tomorrow, it is a moment to pause, reflect and reconnect with the natural world, something that feels increasingly important in our fast-paced, urban lives. @firmdale_hotels and through @kitkempdesignthread 's design philosophy, this connection to nature is not reserved for a single day. It is woven into the very fabric of our interiors through the thoughtful use of colour, pattern, texture and symbolism. Head over to the blog, via the link in bio, to discover how our interiors are inspired by the beauty of the natural world. 🌍 📷 @simonbrownphotography

Paint is often the first instinct when shaping a room, but there is another way to think about surfaces. Instead of focusing only on how a space looks, consider how it feels. Fabric, used where paint would usually go, introduces depth and richness. This week on the blog we are exploring some unexpected places where fabric can take the place of paint. From walls, columns, artwork and accessories, soft furnishings absorb sound, reduce echo and bring a sense of warmth that paint simply cannot achieve. If you stay in one of our hotels, you may notice a subtle detail that quietly, and sometimes boldly, brings a room together. We often explore the meeting point between two fabrics, whether pattern and plain, texture and colour or softness and structure. It is one of the simplest ways to introduce depth, rhythm and visual balance into a space. Rather than relying on a single fabric throughout, we consider proportion, contrast and placement to ensure each piece feels both distinctive and harmonious. Head over to the blog, via the link in bio, as we share some of the ways we use two-tone upholstery throughout our interiors, creating spaces that feel cohesive, even as they embrace contrast. 📷 @simonbrownphotography

Join us on the blog this week, via the link in bio, to discover the art of scheming and the thoughtful process behind creating beautifully layered interiors. @kitkempdesignthread , schemes never feel forced, they evolve. One textile leads to another, a trim introduces contrast, a colour shifts things slightly before settling into place again. It is a process that requires patience, allowing combinations to sit, to be questioned and sometimes undone. Scheming is not just about combining fabrics or colours, it is about learning to navigate uncertainty. To trust instinct, while still allowing space for change. In the end, confidence does not come from always knowing what works, but from being willing to explore what might.
