Last month KIPP Forward joined @kippcorazonus for their first ever College Night 🎓✨
It was an evening dedicated to demystifying the path to higher education with the help of @kippsocal alumni from @kipplaprep , @kipp_opportunity and @kippsol . At the event panelists shared their journey to and through college, tips for a successful high school career, and more.
Highlights from the evening include:

Getting into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was not something @kipplaprep alum Diana R. initially expected, and it wasn’t a school her 9th grade self would have imagined committing to. However, after visiting the campus this past month, she immediately felt at home and knew it was where she wanted to spend the next 4️⃣ years.
Diana is currently a student attending Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet High School, where she has explored a wide range of interests throughout her high school journey. While she began high school set on becoming a doctor 👩🏾⚕️, she discovered passions in media, engineering, and marketing 💻 along the way.
Choosing to explore beyond medicine led to some of her most memorable experiences, including participating in NBCUniversal’s Media Fellows Program with Minds Matter SoCal, visiting Deloitte offices with KIPP Forward, and volunteering in a lab at USC’s Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Her journey reflects the importance of staying open to new opportunities. She encourages younger students not to be afraid to stray from their original plans, emphasizing that no path is linear. By stepping outside of her comfort zone, she has been able to discover more about who she is.
As part of her college application journey, she applied Early Action and was actively involved in KIPP Forward’s ED/EA cohort, where she worked on her applications and essays well before the school year began. Starting early allowed her to stay ahead of deadlines and avoid the stress that often comes with balancing senior year responsibilities, including academics, extracurriculars, college applications, and financial aid. She hopes her experience serves as a reminder to younger students that beginning the process early can make a meaningful difference!

We are kicking off a fun Slack Bingo Scavenger Hunt and you are invited to join!
This is a great way to connect with other alumni and stay active in the community. Complete different squares by posting, engaging, and sharing on Slack.
You might find yourself posting about your college, connecting with another alum, or showing off your school spirit along the way.
The first three students to complete a row and complete BINGO will be eligible for our three prizes!
Rules and Regulations:
Students must complete an entire row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) to win an Amazon wishlist. (1st place is $100, 2nd place is $50 and 3rd place is $25)
Students must provide proof of each individual square is completed before claiming their prize
Winners are on a first come, first serve basis!
Bingo Scavenger Hunt will run from May 4th-May 28th and the winners will be announced on May 29th!

Recently, @kippforward_la hosted Alumni Success Night, bringing together 40+ high school seniors for a powerful evening of connection and reflection.
Students opened up about their hopes, dreams, and even their fears as they prepare for life after high school — and heard real talk and guidance from fellow alumni and the KIPP Forward team on navigating what comes next.
To close out the night, each senior received a KIPP Forward graduation sash — a symbol of their journey and the community that will continue to support them through college and beyond. 🙌🏽
No matter where they go next, our KIPPsters are never on this journey alone. 💫

Valerie, an alumna of @kippsol , is currently a 3rd-year student at @ucla , where she is majoring in Education and Social Transformation.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, Valerie has been an active participant in College Corps, a statewide, service-based program in partnership with colleges and universities across California. Through College Corps at UCLA, Valerie serves as an AmeriCorps member supporting campus sustainability efforts. She contributes to zero waste initiatives by conducting waste audits, analyzing data, and leading outreach to help students and staff improve their environmental impact. Valerie shares, “This experience has strengthened my commitment to sustainability and shown me how education and small behavior changes can drive meaningful, long-term change”.🌱
As a College Corps Fellow, Valerie is not only making an impact in her community, but also gaining valuable professional experience, ongoing training, and joining a network of young leaders across the state, all while earning up to $10,000 to support her educational journey.
