This is the world of Akae Saibyo (fine red-line painting),

Across time, a small world of landscape has found its way into my hands.
In the confident brushstrokes of an Edo-period painter,
distant mountain peaks unfold,
a pavilion stands quietly by the water’s edge,
and birds cut through the wind.
Within a vessel small enough to fit in the palm,
spreads the serene and majestic scenery
once admired and longed for by people of that era.

江戸の終わりか、明治の始まりか。
かつての暮らしの中で愛されてきた「印判手」のそば猪口。
型紙から写し取られた藍色の滲みや、わずかな歪み。
それは、当時の職人たちが吹き込んだ「呼吸」の跡のようにも見えます。
縁起の良い独楽（こま）文様が描かれたこの器は、
どんな風景を眺め、どんな人々の日常を彩ってきたのでしょうか。
At the end of the Edo period, or the beginning of the Meiji era—these sobachoko cups in the inban-de style were once beloved in everyday life.
The soft indigo bleeds transferred from stencil printing, and the subtle distortions—these can almost be seen as traces of the “breath” breathed into them by the craftsmen of the time.
