Kinowerks and Second City Gaming are teaming up with HUPR for a night built around play, movement, community, and art—where gaming meets culture in all its forms.
Expect consoles throughout the space, an open bar, and a room full of people who see play as more than entertainment—it’s a way to connect, create, and build something bigger.
We’ll also host a special world premiere from Chicago artist Lonnie Edwards, debuting his newest music video *“I See the Sun,”* inspired by Princess Mononoke.
Plus, we've got treats from Ava’s Italian Ice to keep the night cool.
This is what happens when creative energy, gaming, and community share the same space.

Laughter has a way of opening the room.
Last Saturday, Kinowerks was proud to host our partners at @mezclamediacollective for their Spring Showcase: Why We Laugh—an evening filled with sharp storytelling, shared joy, and the kind of creative energy that lingers long after the credits roll.
Three fantastic shorts from their newest cohort lit up the screen, followed by a thoughtful panel discussion with the filmmakers. Between the conversation, great food, and easy laughter throughout the space, the night carried a lightness that felt perfectly timed for the arrival of spring and the promise of summer ahead.
That spirit matters. Joy, humor, and gathering in community are creative forces of their own.
Thank you to Mezcla Media Collective, the filmmakers, and everyone who joined us for a beautiful night of stories, connection, and the energy that reminds us brighter seasons will always come with laughter.
Stories bring people together.
This past Friday, Kinowerks was proud to host our partners @creatorcollectivechi for another inspiring Film Club—an evening full of bold ideas, fresh perspectives, and real creative energy.
Six fantastic short films from diverse voices lit up the screen, followed by the kind of conversations that matter most: filmmakers, artists, and audiences connecting through story, process, and shared curiosity.
That exchange is what Kinowerks is built for—creating space for dialogue, discovery, and the relationships that move creative culture forward out in Chicago.
Thank you to Creator Collective, the filmmakers, and everyone who showed up ready to engage.
More stories. More connection. More to come.
LAST MINUTE SCHEDULE CHANGE! Film Club is now happening FRIDAY, APRIL 17th from 7pm to
10pm.
If you purchased a ticket and cannot attend, DM us with your email and name and we can issue a refund. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Kinowerks x Second City Gaming brought together creators, gamers, and community under one shared belief: play has the power to transform. What we felt in that room was bigger than a moment—it was momentum.
Huge thanks to the incredible community partners who showed up and built with us: Common Ground Collective (@cgcollectivechi ), Chicago Cosplaying Hotties (@chicagoscosplayinghotties ), and Chicago Loot Drop (@chicagolootdrop ). You made the energy real.
And, most of all, thank you to all who came through. Words can't describe how thankful we are of the diverse voices you brought into our space.
This is just the beginning. More connection, more creativity, more play ahead.
Let’s keep going.
Movement is more than motion—it’s memory, expression, and connection.
The Silver Beat brings that idea to life through an evening of Latin Dance, conversation, and community—created in partnership with Parkinson’s Foundation (@parkinsondotorg ) to support awareness and fundraising for Parkinson’s Disease.
We’re opening the space for a dialogue on movement as care—exploring its role in healing across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. From there, we shift into practice: a beginner-friendly Salsa workshop, followed by a social dance session (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia) where everyone is invited into the rhythm.
This isn’t just about dance—it’s about access, resilience, and the shared ground we find through movement.

WHY WE LAUGH 🎬 Comedy as Community Care
The Mezcla Media Collective Spring Showcase is back for its fourth year — and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with @kinowerks to celebrate and amplify bold, original work that not only make us laugh but also brings us together.
This theme invites films that explore laughter as connection — between friends, families, cultures, and communities. We’re drawn to stories where humor creates belonging and where joy is shared rather than performed. 🤭👯♀️
We’re especially excited to partner with @kinowerks , whose commitment to independent filmmakers and intentional spaces makes them a natural home for this kind of shared experience! 💖
Link to get your ticket in the bio. Stay tuned for our full run of show. We’ve got a lot of fun in store 👀

Join Second City Gaming and Kinowerks for the launch of Press Start, a new event series exploring the power of play, gaming, and community in Chicago.
At its core, gaming is about more than competition—it’s about connection, creativity, and shared experiences. Press Start brings people together to celebrate the transformative nature of play and the communities it can build.
For this first gathering, Kinowerks will transform into a space for gaming and conversation. We’ll have game consoles set up throughout the venue, an open bar, and a welcoming environment where you can meet fellow gamers, creatives, and community builders.
Second City Gaming is working to create a more inclusive and accessible gaming community in Chicago, using play as a way to bring people together and create positive impact beyond the screen. This event is an opportunity to learn more about that vision while simply enjoying games with others.
As a creative hub for Chicago’s artists and storytellers, Kinowerks believes in the power of shared creative experiences—and gaming is one of the most powerful forms of collaborative storytelling and play today. Hosting Press Start is part of our mission to support spaces where creativity, culture, and community intersect.
Whether you’re a lifelong gamer or just curious to connect with others, we’d love to have you join us.

With Love was exactly that — a day rooted in care, creativity, and community 💌 This Valentine’s Day, Kinowerks became a shared space for every kind of love: love for art, love for making, love for showing up for one another.
From the pop-up gallery and vendor market to hands-on workshops, live music, and quiet moments of connection, the room was filled with intention. Artists shared their work. Guests rolled up their sleeves and created together. Conversations unfolded between strangers who left as collaborators.
We’re deeply grateful to every artist, vendor, workshop leader, musician, and attendee who helped shape the day. Thank you for trusting the space, bringing your whole selves, and reminding us that creativity is a powerful way to care for one another.
With Love lives on — in the work still on our walls, in the relationships sparked that day, and in the community we continue to build together.
