FCFF/tc FILM SPOTLIGHT: In honor of World Water Day, we’re highlighting some of our festival blocks focused on water today. First up is “Lake Life,” which has five short films highlighting the amazing and diverse stories of our Great Lakes and waterways. “Lake Life” will screen on Friday, May 1 at 10am at Silver Spruce Brewing Company and Saturday, May 2 at 12pm at Right Brain Brewery. The blocks are presented with support from the Conservation Resource Alliance and Northwestern Michigan College. Featured shorts include:
🎥 “Restoring Northern Michigan’s Rivers” by Jason Whalen and Fauna Creative: From Rugg Pond Dam on the Rapid River in Kalkaska County to the Crystal River in Leelanau County, this film follows the Conservation Resource Alliance’s River Care program and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians as they restore Northern Michigan’s rivers. Director Jason Whalen will be in attendance.
🎥 “Shorelunch with Nate P: Daddy’s Little Fishermen” by Nate Pischke and Erik Sudheimer: Nate P’s father joins them on frigid Lake of the Woods to give Nate his first, and likely last, ice shack tattoo!
🎥 “Lake Michigan Gets Swell!-Hometown Hype Northern Michigan” by Mike King: Surfing in Northern Michigan? For most people, it sounds impossible. But for filmmaker and Hometown Hype: Michigan director Mike King, it’s a story worth telling. Director Mike King will be in attendance.
🎥 “Pulse of the Great Lakes” by Daniel Wroblewski: From scientists and sailors to weather forecasters and beachgoers, buoys play an integral role in responding to changing conditions on the Great Lakes. NMC Great Lakes Water Studies Institute Director John Lutchko will be a special guest at the Friday screening.
🎥 “Gales of November” by Joseph Augustine: Hear from the few people who have seen the Edmund Fitzgerald since the ship sank in Lake Superior 50 years ago. As historians and experts continue to debate why the ship sank, the answers could still be found in the wreckage…but there likely will never be another dive.
Tickets for “Lake Life” are on sale now at TC.FreshCoastFilm.com! (link in bio)
