Oh hey podcast enthusiast. I recently had a chat with
@roxyprima and
@phoooebers of
@drunkonlettering and we got three sheets to the wind, talked about creative journeys, moving to LA, making textures, almonds vs walnuts and comic-nerd hate-mail.
.
Speaking of which, this image is me shamelessly knocking-off a Jaime Hernandez panel from Love And Rockets. I don’t know what issue as I find stumbling upon out-of-context comic art on the internet far more enjoyable than consuming comics in situ.
.
In the past I’ve been loosely inspired by the original to create completely different artworks but after reading
@questlove ‘s Creative Quest book recently I decided to follow his suggestion of re-creating an existing work in an attempt to get inside the head of the original artist, take the same art-making journey and ultimately create something without the often overwhelming pressure to be 100% original.
.
Ideally, you get to put your mark on it, break through creative block or learn something new you can translate into your regular practice.
.
Obviously this doesn’t/shouldnt/can’t work in a commercial setting but for experimentation, exploration and shits-n-giggles purposes like this, it’s a fun exercise. Would recommend.
.
Anyway, I had a tonne of fun talking to Roxy and Phoebe so please do go listen to the episode. Thanks for having me ladies.
