Soldiers From Ends starring Blaize Alexis-Anglin…. @myselfblaize
- a message from the director -
“Soldiers From Ends began with a want - for our history to be told. The New Cross Fire of 1981 is a forgotten part of our history.
In the early hours of the 18th January 1981, thirteen Black Londoners between the ages of 14-22 died in a fire at a house party in New Cross; including a survivor died by suicide two years later.
I believe we should be insistent that our Black British history is remembered, felt and passed on. That is what this film is. I wanted someone to honour them and their story, but through poetry - one of the most vulnerable forms of storytelling. And I knew Blaize was the man to bring it to life.
Blaize is a young black poet from North London, whose relationship with words offered him a way to feel, to process and to unpack his past. His earnest spirit brought a lot to this film and the wider conversation of what it is to be a Soldier From Ends ❣️🖤”
