@crafted_liberation is inviting you to join. It was exactly this time 2 years ago, i questioned our relationship with public space, these objects and places, made to bring unity, identity and pride. But the right to be united has been taken away from us, by force, in the name of (i leave this bit for your imagination!) So We made these seats from the headscarves that we rejected, to take up space. as a quiet act of protest, and of resilience. A story of many Iranian women, beautifully placed in a public grandstand, to become united. Through the headscarf that once controlled them Something you can sit with. Something that doesn’t look away. This is how we resist, through our creativity, from across oceans, across memories, to craft something from the threads that holds us together. 🖤 Crafted Liberation comes to Berlin. 🖤 At @berlindesignweek we are responding to this question: What becomes “common sense” when stories are erased? For decades, Iranian women have been banned from stadiums.
Crafted Liberation reclaims that absence — turning discarded headscarves into seats of empowerment and belonging.
This isn’t about design as a solution.
It’s designed to create space for change.
 Design as resistance.
Design as Common Sense. If you’re in Berlin, we invite you to join us @kallehalle.berlin Learn. Share. Celebrate. Be part of the change. 🪑 Crafted Liberation

✨ Crafted Liberation travels to Europe, starting in May 2025 ✨ In 2022, Mahsa Amini was arrested for not wearing her headscarf “properly.” Three days later, she was gone. In the weeks that followed, women across Iran removed their scarves. Some quietly. Some in mourning. Some in fire. From this collective gesture of grief, defiance and agency — Crafted Liberation was born. Now, we’ve been invited to share this story across three cities in Europe. Not just as a design project , but as a collective act of memory, resistance, and co-creation. ⭐ @munich_creative_business_week Design Summit: Speaking on how we design to shape togetherness ⭐ @berlindesignweek – under the theme Common Sense: Exhibiting our chairs and material storytelling ⭐ @ikeamuseum : part of 'Women in Design: Changemakers' A 10-month exhibition honouring global voices (more soon!) This is a movement shaped by 516 Iranian women who decided to go to the post office and send us their unwanted scarf. A movement carried by every hand that believes design can, and must, hold space for justice. For memory. For togetherness. We invite you to sit with us, and carry these stories with care. 💛 Iran Khanom, this one’s for you. 🪑 Follow along @crafted_liberation to see this journey ❤️ Created from the heart by RK Collective #CraftedLiberation #WomenLifeFreedom #DesignForChange #DesignForSocialImpact #MaterialStorytelling #SoftResistance #CollectiveAction #IranianWomen #DesignSummit #BerlinDesignWeek #IKEAMuseum #ReclaimTheSeat #productdesign #socialimpact #socialimpactdesign #designwithcare @nila.rezaei @chrisvankrainsson

MOM I‘M LOST | Graduation Collection | 2024 HARMONY Navigating identity while transitioning from adolescence to adulthood is challenging, especially for eldest immigrant youths caught between two worlds. You’re torn between familiar traditions and a new culture, expected to adapt while taking on adult responsibilities. This collection serves as a second skin for those feeling lost, blending tradition with modernity. It offers comfort and self-expression through a mix of sporty and couture elements, playful fabrics, and cultural influences-embracing the freedom to be authentically yourself. 2025 is here, and we’re kicking it off with immense gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead! 🌟 @crafted_liberation began as a dream to transform oppression into empowerment, weaving the stories of resilience from hundreds of Iranian women into a symbol of collective action. This past year, we’ve been honored to share this journey with you through four exhibitions, including our incredible launch at the @australiandesigncentre as well as @icadartura @grafton_regional_gallery @magamnsw These exhibitions were not just displays—they were conversations, moments of unity, and powerful acts of cultural dialogue. None of this would have been possible without the courage of our collaborators, the unwavering support of our community, and the shared belief that together, we can craft the change we want to see. As we look to 2025, we’re thrilled to present Crafted Liberation to the world! Each seat—made from headscarves donated by Iranian women—stands as a testament to resilience, unity, and the power of storytelling. Our goal? To bring these stories to as many people as possible, sparking dialogue and inspiring action for a future of equity and understanding. We invite you to continue this journey with us: 🌟 Follow us @crafted_liberation 🌟 Share our mission and stories, Inspire action. 🌟 Connect with us and collaborate on creating seats for your community Thank you for being part of this movement. Let’s make 2025 a year of impact and hope! ❤️ With gratitude, Nila and Chris from RK Collective #craftedliberation #socialimpact #textilerecycling #designforchange #socialdesign #designforgood #designforall #productdesign #australiandesign #womanempowerment #industrialdesign #recycling #wastefree @creative.australia @uno.studios_ @debbiegallulophoto @lx.lx.intragam @reco.digital @thelpmproject

@crafted_liberation shares the stories of Iranian women reclaiming spaces, standing together, uniting to inspire change. “These stadium chairs aren’t just symbols of what we weren’t allowed to have; they represent the reality and fight of women who have had to battle for every small step toward freedom. These chairs aren’t just objects; they are the silent voices now being heard loudly by the world.” - Nafiseh, Canada. We’d love to invite you to participate in this project: ⭐ Donate your unwanted headscarves To be part of our seat collection. @crafted_liberation grew as we collected more unwanted headscarves from Iranian women around the world. With every unwanted headscarf donated, new stories emerge, new stadium seats are created, and the message of change becomes louder. This journey will not stop. We’re committed to continuing this project: collecting unwanted headscarves, sharing women’s stories, and turning them into symbols of action and freedom. If this mission resonates with you, and you have unwanted headscarves stored away, we’d love for you to send them to us—anonymously and safely. Or share our story with someone who can. ✉️ DM us for a safe and confidential way to contribute. Let’s make a ripple of impact. ❤️ Created from the heart by RK Collective. #craftedliberation #socialimpact #textilerecycling #designforchange #socialdesign #designforgood #designforall #productdesign #australiandesign #womanempowerment #industrialdesign #womanlifefreedom

The @crafted_liberation NIKA chair is an empowering collaboration with @kimimo.studio In 2023, Kimia designed a collection as a tribute to Women, Life, Freedom 🕊️ Her first outfit was NIKA: “This outfit is about the innocent children, who are murdered cold-blooded by the Islamic Republic of Iran on the streets and even at school.” Kimia writes. “Girls in Iran, when they start school at the age of 6, must wear uniforms that are sometimes 2-3 times bigger than their own actual size. Many of them may not even wear their forced headcover correctly. They are just kids.” On this fabric, the names of 35 children assassinated by the Islamic Republic of Iran since September 2022, are handwritten and in acryle on the white headscarf. Kimia sent us the offcuts of the fabric used in her collection, allowing us to create this special seat, in the memory of whom we lost. 👉 If you would like to donate your unwanted headscarves and collaborate to make a seat, please DM us for more information. برای همکاری و خلق صندلی استادیوم با روسریهای ناخواسته خود با ما تماس بگیرید 🙏🏻 ❤️ @crafted_liberation is created from the heart by RK Collective. زن زندگى ازادى #craftedliberation #socialimpact #textilerecycling #designforchange #socialdesign #designforgood #designforall #productdesign #australiandesign #womanempowerment #industrialdesign @thetehrantimes @tehran.artscene @iranianpopart @thepersianmag @womanlifefreedom.art

Each of these scarves tell a story… A story of resilience, of voices raised and lives intertwined. Crafted Liberation began as a project—but it became a movement, connecting us with the strength of Iranian women around the world.  Together, we stand for freedom, creativity and courage. This is more than a fabric; it’s a symbol of hope. Through a participatory call for action on social media, we gathered these scarves—each one contributed by voices united in support, solidarity and the shared pursuit of liberation. Through @crafted_liberation , we want to share Iranian women’s inspiring stories, creating spaces for acceptance, belonging and dialogue. “I’m hopeful for a bright future. One day, we’ll dance under the Azadi Tower—wearing our scarves, by choice.” - Aida, Australia 👉 What’s your story?
