Spent the last year trying to figure out the best way to honour Tahmid’s last project. One of our last conversations was about the album he was working on with his lifelong friends called Hail Mary and how we could release it under KILLJOY.
His vision was clear - with the right rollout, the album could exist outside of hardcore and speak for itself. For him, the album was based on his history of migration, trauma and a life dedicated to liberation.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Tahmid knew his dedication to go all out on whatever he was working on. He had recorded the entire vocals in a single take while wheelchair-bound, all while balancing exhibitions, dialysis treatments, and his social life. In the pursuit of perfection, he had reached out to Chuco Moreno for the album artwork. The six-track project he described as “KING HIT CITY DEATH METAL”. Of course, these songs are about more than Tahmid. This was a project that we wanted to be so deeply ingrained to our mutual love of Sydney. You will see many mentions of people—from lifelong friends and family to mentors, artists, models, collaborators, and more—who’ve shaped this album. I don’t have many regrets in life but I wish I picked up this project sooner so he could have seen it roll out when he was around.
The Hail Mary album comes out next week on May 14th, with a full cut and sew collection coming shortly after.
