some tips i wish i knew ⬇️
honestly event photography has way less to do with gear than people think
📸 don’t walk into the room shutter blazing
people need time to adjust to your presence
if you enter too aggressively, everyone stiffens up and suddenly the room feels photographed instead of lived in
📸 positive energy matters more than your camera
people mirror your energy
if you look stressed, awkward, or overly serious, the photos usually reflect that
📸 small talk is part of the job
sometimes the best photo comes 30 seconds after “y’all mind if i grab you real quick?”
being personable gets you moments gear can’t
📸 fresh breath, eye contact, humor
sounds lame until you realize event photography is basically social engineering people photograph better when they feel comfortable🤷🏾♂️
📸 don’t shoot EVERYTHING wide open
super shallow depth of field can kill the atmosphere of a room
sometimes the environment matters just as much as the subject
📸 be quick
the best expressions usually exist for half a second
hesitation costs photos
📸 the goal isn’t just “coverage”
it’s capturing what the room felt like
that’s the difference
Hope this helps (and YES I cover events lol)

we don’t pick cameras for colors, we pick them for convenience
your colors come from light + editing, not the brand on your camera
if you’re shooting raw and actually editing… it really doesn’t matter if it’s sony, canon, fuji or nikon 🤷🏽♂️
the camera just helps you technically - faster autofocus, higher resolution (which, unless you’re shooting billboards, you probably don’t even need)
so if your colors feel off, don’t blame the camera
i can promise - you can probably squeeze more out of it than you think 🤙🏽
and for those who’ll still ask …
i have sony a7 + iPhone + GoPro lol

y’all told me to start back in 2019…
took me a minute
but a lot happened in between
61,000 hours of shooting. Learning.
& realizing I’m going to document things no matter what I’m doing
it’s never really random
I plan a lot more than it probably looks like
even when it feels spontaneous.
& yea i’ve torn my achilles had concussions sparred with MMA fighters and now I’m riding off “cliffs”
so yeah… I finally made the videos
if you’ve been around for a while, you get it
if not, you’ll see
link’s there if you want to tap in 🤙🏽
I go to Snowbird
and end up doing what I always do…
Capturing moments. 📸
it doesn’t matter if it’s a GoPro, my phone in my pocket, or a camera I brought out there
if there’s something to document, I find it
even in the middle of a run
even in the cold
even when I’m supposed to just be riding
there are always stories happening
this one just happens to be on a mountain
shot on whatever I have with me
What's your favorite camera?
with @oursundays.slc in Utah 🏂 see how we get down in my first vlog on YouTube I JUMPED OFF A CLIFF…
