READY PLAYER ONE ⢠20âx20â ⢠A painting about the time my art saved me in jail đŞ˝
A few days in, I was moved to the bunk above the key holder with the woods. I had no idea how long Iâd be in there. I didnât even know I was going to jail after a year of SCRAM and four months of house arrest. The judge was an ex-cop and said he wanted to teach me a lesson.
One day, a younger wood mouthed off to a higher up and I was enlisted to light him up for 23 seconds.
I take my shirt off.
Guards are standing nearby, watching.
One of my boys with the South Side crew leans in and tells me, âThis is how they keep you in.â
Right before I step behind the bunk, the oldest wood in there pulls me aside and tells me Iâm off the hook but makes me promise to do a painting about it. This is that painting.
Turns out he was an artist too. He grew up with one of my good friendâs good friends, someone Iâve collaborated with throughout my career. Angel wings were always her thing.
I got out the next day.
Went straight to an on camera interview.
Three days later, I walked into opening night of my May Flowers show.
My art didnât just give me a way out.
It gave me something to come back to.
From painting murals across Venice to taking on commissions around the world, Kelcey Fischer built a style that travels.

PiNK CLOUD & DESTiNATiON đ¸âď¸âď¸
PiNK CLOUD- When I lived in NYC, it was the first place where Iâd see planes overhead and not want to be on one leaving. I thought I had arrived. Turns out I was just on a pink cloud, falling into another hard chapter.
DESTiNATiON- Three brothers commissioned me to paint Nyhavn in Denmark. Instead of working from a stock image in my Brooklyn studio, I flew out for a month, shot my own reference and painted the piece in Copenhagen. Everyone told me it didnât make sense financially. It ended up being the most lucrative month of my career at the time and the start of what I now call Destination Commissions. Thank you for this experience @jamesjpoulsen . It changed my life đŤśđź
A New York story for a New York gallery 𪜠đš
The last time I saw you we hugged goodbye. I didnât know the true meaning of a hug until we shared our last. Now I share that in every embrace.
Grandpa left right before you. I was a junior in college studying graphic design, unsure what I was doing with my life. During an experimental course I painted the two of you. My professors and piers told me I needed to keep painting.
Years later in Brooklyn, a feather fell in front of me and your face became the final piece in my first New York solo show.
In this piece I am the rose. Pieces of me leaving with you. The suit to represent the moment I had to grow up. The Controlled Chaos on my pants are my roots.
You continue to inspire me all these years later. Your memory echoes through my work and my life đ
